i would like to set the story strait and inform everyone that yes, the well and the shack on ringling road do exist. they have not been bulldozed contrairy to prior belief. I also have pictures of it if anyone would like to see please let me know. the pictures i have are ones i took during the day. i went at night but didnt make it all the way down the path. i turned and went back. it is quite a hike to get to though so i can understand how one might think it no longer exists. i assure you though it is there and it is very real. i'm hoping to go back tonight and hopefully get some night time pics. i'm definately not ging back alone though.
Krissy hasn't been online in a while, I hope she is okie after her trip to Ringling. Does anyone else know about the location of the well and the shack? We want to go check it out. We're really curious if it is there. When Chad went he didn't find anything and had gotten info that it was all destroyed, but Krissy states that is not true and she knows were it is, she just hasn't been online. Can anyone help???
I know where to find the road I Googled it. I am just curious if the well and shack are still there? I am sure that the stool would be gone, what are the odds? Anyway on Google maps you can see there is quite a bit of land to cover back there. Do you think it's back there Darkman?
This one caught my eye, I have been to Ringling Rd. many times, at least 5 in the last 6 yrs. The well is definately still there and pretty easy to find since I have only been up there at night. It is really near Hwy A in Lake Dalton where the lake overflowed the rd and went right in to the WI river and flowed by the old Ringling property but no damage happend to it.
To find the well, you need to take Ringling rd all the way to the end, there will be a very nice house on the left, and a farm field on the right with a farm road and metal gate closed across it that says no trespassing. You can't park here, you can park and walk from a apartment down the other rd. that goes back into the dells.
You need to take the farm rd. behind the gate for a little walk of about 5min. It goes right along the WI river on left and an open field on the Rt. You know when your getting close because you will approach a woods and see two stone pillars on each side of the rd. your walking on. One has the initials of one the original 5 Ringling Bros., He bought this farm back when the headquarters for the circus where in Baraboo. The rd/trail gets bad here, very unkept, keep walking and look into the woods to the right the well is huge with a roof over it. Even at night you can see in between the trees, but wise to bring a light. I have never found the shack but I have never been in daytime and only brought lighters for light.
I have more info, and several stories of my own visits and history of the place as well as others who have gone back when you could drive back in there... very odd and definately a special /creepy place. Let me know if your interested. I love going to the local haunted places!
I talked to a co-worker today and he also works at the river's edge resturant which is only a mile from the ringling shack and well. He said its really spooky there. he said if you climb a tree rocks will fly at you. He also said you can hear cackling noises just like on the blair witch movie.
jeff and I just got back to his house, its so funny that you mentioned blair witch because we just rented it and we are just bout to pop it in the dvd player... We totally want to go to ringling soon, let us know if you want to join us.
Kat, I can't beleive I missed your post, I somehow overlooked it. Thank You for providing directions. I have been searching for them for a while, they should be really helpful. I am excited to go to Ringling sometime soon. If you live near the dells and would like to join us, let us know. Also I would love to hear about any experiences you have had there...
wow, we have always wanted to go to ringling road but never had the chance. Plus i hear its a long walk to the shack, and it would be hard when we have a 6 year old. Can't go there at adark with a 6 year old either would it be then or during the daytime???
Well if we go it would be during the day the first time, so that we could see. Probably on a Saturday or Sunday morning / afternoon. Otherwise I get off of work every other tuesday at noon. We would probably have to go sometime soon before it snows or gets to cold. It's probably real muddy right now with all the rain.
I have to go here soon. I have been itching to see if the well and shack are back there and if I can find them ever since I heard about this place. Don't worry, when I finally make it there I will make sure to get photos...
