The fires that have been in history (upper Wisconsin and Chicago) could have been meteorites. Here is another bit of information that will trigger a thought. When I was younger I was and still am interested in Wsconsin geology ect.I kept articles about wisconsin and studied her maps.I fell uponed a article about an geological area in the lower left hand area around Jackson county and Madison area along the mississippi river. If you look at the map cloesly there is a circular area with a lower body level that indicates a possible meteoric spot.I have even heard that this could be part of the backwards road area near the WI/ILL boarder area.I wish I still had that information way back 30+ years ago.At a recent Gem and Mineral show I got information that there is indeed an area in the jackson county and below area said to have been hit millions of years ago.We know someone very close that lives right over near Silver Mountain(Cool place to visit by the way!) and in his back field there is a hole that never was a sand pit or gravel pit and is on there deed as just part of the land.I will someday do some investigating to see what is in that hole.It is fun to drive in and out and there is a natural stream started in the bottom. He said it never was there before so it is a under ground stream.Maybe it could be an area where meteorite hit?Maybe/Maybe not. Wisconsin has a lot of unspoken closed off subjects and it is indeed interesting.
