Does anybody have any information about a place called "Hell's Playground" that is usually reported as being in Brodhead, WI on websites like "the Shadowlands" (and that sort of thing)....??
I've learned that it really isn't in Brodhead, but rather - it's South of there, in Avon Township in an area known as "Avon Bottoms" along the Sugar River....this is a place that gets reported as being the site of the murders of two children and one adult (sometimes they say the adult is the father of the children) - anyway, basically a "haunted playground" where you hear the voices of the children at night, etc.
Does anybody have any personal experience with this place at all?
Thanks Raven, I didn't know that you had info on this place. I didn't know that it was back in the woods like that. I hadn't done any investigation into this. I guess I just assumed that the playground was in the town. I am glad to find out this information. It's all reminisant of the Blair Witch Project. Had anyone ever been out there? I have so many questions. Is it just a playground out there, two miles from the road in the woods. If anyone can tell me any more info that would be great. I am so curious as to why they would put a playground so deep in the woods. I guess it would be a spot for people to stop if they were hiking, but honestly, how many people are going to hike that deep into the woods with children?
EEEEEEKKKK, I just read the comments on strange usa. Sounds freaky, not sure if I beleive that the playground is actually out there or not. It sounds unlikely. The crazy part is that someone said that the real story is that someone got shot out there. His name was something like Steven Shrivers or somthing (its on the strange usa site) but it happened on my Birthday December 3.
...after I made that first post about Hell's Playground, I did go to your site and look it up! So have you ever hiked down the two mile path to see if there is any kind of playground in there?
I had also read some of the comments on that "Strange USA" site - but it was a long time ago, and there have been more comments made on there since then, so it was good to get some more information from people who seem to be familiar with the place!
-and like OMW, I found the post made by the person who seems to know "the real story" to be "freaky" to say the least! (and I can't imagine how you, OMW, must have felt when you read that it happened on your birthday) - but it's amazing that person gave the name of the kid who was shot and the date it happened, so if it's true there must be some record of it...I'm going to see if I can find any details of the incident.
It also seems strange to me, too - that a "playground" would be out in the woods like that - but I've done some "research" on that area already and the "playground story" is a real possibility! See, that whole area is owned by the Wisconsin DNR - it's called the "AVON BOTTOMS WILDLIFE AREA" and it's basically a giant park!!! Here's the DNR's info on it:
It's open to the public...the trails are there for hikers to use....why wouldn't they have put a little "swing area" out on one of the trails?
But if there were swings (and even a slide) - and we believe the person who said the kid was killed in 1975 - then that's almost 35 years ago now. They could have taken out the swings and slide decades ago.
This would be a great place to check out sometime! I think I'd rather wait until the weather gets warmer again - but next Spring, if any of you wanted to just meet up at the Avon Bottoms Wildlife area some Saturday afternoon - I'd definitely be willing to be there!
Hi "thetruth" - I live a little north of Janesville (near Edgerton) and I work in Madison, so I'm always interested in any "location" in this area. (I guess by "this area" I'm talking about Southern Wisconsin) - I know right where this "Avon Bottoms" is located now, too, and it's not that far...maybe a half hour to 45 minutes from me, so I definitely want to check out "Hell's Playground" - !!!

I heard about this place years ago, a friend of mine went hiking there when he was in the boy scouts. This was about 10 years ago but from what he told me there was a run down park area some place out there. I remember him saying the hike itself is really creepy because your really nowhere near anything and its a few mile hike out.
