abcnews.go.com/Primetime/story?id=468496&page=1The UFO Phenomenon -- Seeing Is Believing
Two-Hour Primetime Special Airs Thursday, Feb. 24 at 8 p.m.
Feb. 4, 2005 -- Almost 50 percent of Americans, according to recent polls, and millions of people elsewhere in the world believe that UFOs are real. For many it is a deeply held belief. For decades there have been sightings of UFOs by millions and millions of people. It is a mystery that only science can solve, and yet the phenomenon remains largely unexamined. Most of the reporting on this subject by the mainstream media holds those who claim to have seen UFOs up to ridicule. On Feb. 24, "Peter Jennings Reporting: UFOs - Seeing Is Believing" takes a fresh look at the UFO phenomenon. "As a journalist," says Jennings, "I began this project with a healthy dose of skepticism and as open a mind as possible. After almost 150 interviews with scientists, investigators, and with many of those who claim to have witnessed unidentified flying objects, there are important questions that have not been completely answered - and a great deal not fully explained." "Peter Jennings Reporting: UFOs - Seeing Is Believing" airs Thursday, Feb. 24 from 8-10 p.m. ET on ABC. The program will be broadcast in High Definition. This two-hour primetime special reports on the entire scope of the UFO experience - from the first famous sighting by Kenneth Arnold in 1947 to the present day. The program draws on interviews with police officers, pilots, military personnel, scientists and ordinary citizens who give extraordinary accounts of encounters with the unexplained. Also included are the voices of professional skeptics about UFOs, including scientists who are leading the search for life forms beyond earth elsewhere in the universe. The program explores the facts behind the enduring mystery of the incident at Roswell, N.M., and looks into the strange stories of alien abductions. Among the UFO cases presented: [/b] - Sixteen airmen on the ground and the crew of an airborne B-52 witness a massive unidentified object hovering near the base. * Phoenix, Ariz., March 1997 - Hundreds witness a huge triangular craft moving slowly over the city. * St. Clair County, Ill., January 2000 - Police officers in five adjoining towns all independently report witnessing a giant craft with multiple bright lights moving silently across the sky at a very low altitude.[/ul] Today if you report a UFO to the U.S. government you will be informed that the Air Force conducted a 22-year investigation which ended in 1969 and concluded that UFOs are not a threat to national security and are of no scientific interest. But as one of the world's leading theoretical physicists says in the program, "You simply cannot dismiss the possibility that some of these UFO sightings are actually sightings from some object created by ... a civilization perhaps millions of years ahead of us in technology." "Peter Jennings Reporting: UFOs - Seeing Is Believing" is produced by PJ Productions and Springs Media for ABC News. Mark Obenhaus and Tom Yellin are the executive producers.

Ripped from TV GUIDE program reviews — Hits & Misses By Susan Stewart and Matt Roush:
Peter Jennings Reporting (8pm/ET/ABC) Has Agent Mulder secretly taken up residence at ABC News? Jennings devotes two peculiar hours to “the UFO phenomenon,” but not to convince us that UFOs or extraterrestrial life actually exist. The intent of “UFOs – Seeing Is Believing” is to remind us how many people are already convinced. We hear from skeptics who say UFO-logy is “a mythology that's based on superstition wrapped inside a fairy tale,” and from believers, including pilots who've witnessed mysterious things in the sky that may or may not be alien, but certainly can't be identified. MATT'S SCORE (0-10): 6

Ok! I thought that was a pretty good show...It left you with the Big Question " ?" I know what the answer is....Do I have to draw a picture? ;D The goverment though is another question and we know what thats about! All I can say is that there is something to study and to see whats out there! I seen and read about all thoughs guys who spoke as Scientists and the College proffessors and of some of the sightings ...They did not talk about the sightings seen in the other countries as much...They have been reporting more then we have...Kind of makes you wonder..And not to mention from way back in history when time started...Even Cave Men and other's from our long past have seen and drew pictures of things from the sky! That college Proffessor is someone I would love to talk to..He has a good idea going about the short cut to our world thought..I read about that theory String theory and the paralell theory, we are close to another time thats where you can like walk through a mirror type theory and be in another dimention?and it makes lots of sence..We take short cuts to places when we drive and if there could be a road map in space? why not take the short cut if it saves them gas!..I look at those crop circles too! And if you look at them they kind of remind you of star formations in space...Could they be a map? or a way of comunication? They should study them more closely to the world in relation to the stars and solar system and see if they show a map..And here is a good one ,The Capital of our U.S.A. is also on a v shape if you look at it from the sky. They say it was a scret code type layout and kind of fit the crop circle theory. I don't know folks .They Need To Sudy this and stop pulling the blankets over their eyes.I look at it this way...SO WHAT IF THERE IS UFO"S ....They have a right to visit if they are just comming to visit and not hurting anyone! When we die ..we will find another place and thats heaven..No-One disputes that theory! And there is a God...We Believe and his name is on the dollar bill! There has to be more then our small tiny lives in this universe...And that is a fact! Not a theory....No one knows what is ahead of us as for our lives and no-one knows what was before us either....So what ever is out there, we just will have to deal with it and know that what was seen by these people was not a bull! And thats the end of my thought of the show! I rate the show an.... B+.Because they gave the facts.... ************************************** I rate the goverments thoughts about it .....D+ for not doing more! That means they flunked and I put them in the corner with a dunts hat for not doing thier home work! ************************************** KEEP WATCHING AND REPORTING!Don't let the goverments discourage you to tell what you seen or will ever see!!now I have to go to work and watch the skies..because I had to see this show and made sure my recorder was working!

Watched this Show tonight. Found it somewhat disappointing.
It was moreless just a rehash of everything we've probably already seen on TLC, Discovery, and the History channel, only far less comprehensive.
I do agree with the skeptics that lights in the sky, and eyewitness accounts really don't amount to a hill of beans. Except in cases where there are a multitude of eyewitnesses, or in cases where the witness is an official of some sort.
I was dissapointed with the treatment Roswell recieved. Almost as though they decided what the final analysis should be before they researched it. What always intrigued me about Roswell was not the eyewitness accounts, the stories, or papertrails, but the 4 seperate official government press releases.
1) They recovered a crashed disc. 2) It really was a crashed weather balloon experiment. 3) It really was a super secret ballon called Mogul. 4) The "bodies" reported were from an experiment that took place in the 50's where they air dropped dummies. (nevermind Roswell took place in '47)
They kind of merged the 3rd and 4th releases, for convenience I suppose. It's hard for me to think that anyone can look at these 4 seperate releases, and not raise an eyebrow. But Roswell is alot like the JFK assasination in that, the honest to God real truth could come out, and no one will know it. Because it will just be one more conspiracy theory in a sea of conspiracy theories.
I wish John E. Mack was still alive when they spoke about abductions. They failed to mention him, when they spoke of hard Harvard psychologists looking into the matter.
All in all, nothing new, alot was left out, I've seen much better.
Michio Kaku was the only real bright light in the show. It's always a pleasure to hear him speak. Michio Kaku's open mindedness is refreshing.
It always amazes me that scientists cling to the "God's Quarantine" scenario in terms of interstellar space travel. Essentially that distances are so vast that it just can not be done. This assumes, that mankind currently possesses the sum total of all potential knowledge of physics. I'm guessing we don't. It reminds me of the time, when the best minds of the world thought that the Earth couldn't possibly be round.

Hi jjrakeman, Excuse me..they say that it takes years to move around in space? Have you ever been in space......?So would we know how fast we can move in space if you never where up there....When you see them guys floating in thier space ships ..it looks like they can move relitively fast and not to mention when they are using new technological propulsion technics...So !I would really like to see when they actually move in space! and make my own observation as how fast they can really move up there. Here is the other deal...When they go to the moon and mars... it never really seems like it takes that long for them to get there.....Does it take Years?Noooooo! they take off and we hear about a landing A little later! it's not like where mummies when they report to us finally! So ...It makes me wonder if they are really telling us the truth! They can't tell me that they have not .....with all there new technologies mind you!!!...... that they have been working on for AGES, that they have not found new ways of moving in space ...Also...We have been around for a while now.....What if some other world has been heading our way to find out what where about and now there here!?That kills the theory ..it would take them thosands of years to travel here..It could be like us going to mars and the moon..They are wondering what we are ...just as we are wondering about whats out there and beyond! It's like this! What ever they dispute..We can dispute the same theory...And no-one can dispute that! Lights are seen and because certain people don't want to...for some reason investigate that...Now that tells a story in it's self....Why not! Or is it they don't want to because we will know thae truth?I would love to get the picturse from space they get from the hubble telescope and all the other things they have been storing in who knows where!! why just show picture *every so often* why not have a deal on the net where we can watch everyday and every hour and minut all over in space...So we can make our own dissicions on what is or what is not up there! The goverment has been watching us...Why don't we watch them and what there doing to?That may just change everything we where taught about space travel .......ect!

Just one last reply to the part above...They should have a net T.V. telescope that we can aim anywhere at anytime ..and watch Deep space ( Not just out your back window stuff! mind you!) without any govermental iterventions or the guy singing "It's a beautiful day in the nieghborhood"popping up to break up the veiw! ;D Let us do space watching too,it surley would help stop wasting so much money and we can do more reporting without going anywhere!just type it and send it to the space lab or where ever it goes.Oh yes! and win prizes" Money!"for the best findings! Hey! I would like to be the pulizter prize winner for this idea ...And paton it if they don't all ready have that around!...A Telescope that tranfers the images on a T.V. screen as clear as day ...like they do with videos..like when they show them out in space on the news sometimes.
