Bad news for anyone thinking of taking a trip to Portage to see Church Rd. Cemetery, sometime before March 31st, a group of vandals tipped over and destroyed many of the markers. The police may be considering closing off the cemetery to the public.

we were planning on going there this next sunday. You know the last few times we were there the stones were broken but I bet its worse now. you know its always someone ruining it for others who want to really enjoy it and actually invetigate instead of partying there and destroying things.

Hearing this stuff always makes me angry...I really hope the vandals get run over by the karma train.

I heard about this from the Portage Newspaper. 17 markers were damaged. I was mad when I first heard of this, Church Rd. was a favorite spot of mine. I've heard they might close off the road or build a fence around the cemetery.

I've been there twice myself and found it to be a peaceful place both times.

Just a thought...As a paranormal group why don't you contact the owners or caretakers of this cemetery and volunteer your time to help repair the damage. If your help is accepted, it would really be a positive example of your commitment to support historically significant locations. I know it takes time from family and other things, but it would show favorably upon your group and the paranormal field in general. It might also allow you unlimited access to the cemetery for further investigations.
Just my .02 cents.

sounds like a good idea , but they might get suspicious and think that I did it or someone i know. but they should know that the "dieHard" paranormal invetsigators won't harm anything as best as they can.

Unfortunately this happens way to often, at present we have a reward for information on the vandals in one of our cemetaries here in Lodi, Wi. We are about 20 miles south of Portage on I90 on Hwy 60.

we will see what happens when we head there in a few hours. I'll let everyone know if its okay or if you can't get there. I', betting there will be "fake" road construction on hwy o in portage and theres no sign of road work anywhere, they do that to deter people away from haunted spots.

omg!!!!!!!!!!!! We made it there, more than half of them are demolished. Almost all the new graves that have 3 different levels of the graves were completely demolished. It looks like someone sawed right through each level of the stone. No road construction, no gate around the cemetary. It was just like it was before. It was very peaceful there , we could hear sandhill cranes once again nearby. but yeah my wife and I counted like 7-8 graves that were destroyed that never were before last time we were there in september.

So the road and cemetery are still open. Thanks for letting me know. I'm surprised they didn't close it. Completely demolished?! That's sad. They'll never be able to repair them then.

I have a friend in Portage who recently informed me that a glowing light and orbs are being seen more often now. Maybe due to the vandalism?

I hate when people do stuff like this. Why would they? I don't see motivation or need for this. Its not just a bunch of stones they destroyed, its a representation of the people put to rest there.
