A little over a hundred years ago, I believe, The local paper did have a write up about it then, a good place to read the old papers is the wisconsin room at the University Of Wisconsin Library, it used to be way down in the basement,Hopefully I'll get to go there soon, I have relatives in Belmont, also out in the country between Platteville and Belmont is the first state capital, stories there too.

thanks to tritne for the explanation - but like andes11, I can't find anything at all about this story online, either... I've tried just googling stuff like "haunting near Platteville, WI" and phrases like that - then I moved on to: "Man dismembers wife near Platteville, WI" and basically ever other way I could come up with to state it....I CAN'T FIND ANYTHING AT ALL ABOUT EVIL MR COFFEE!!!! ....hummmmm.....wait a minute..... ok - no. I just tried "EVIL MR COFFEE" and I don't even want to talk about what that brings up.... anyway, nothing about coffee can woods! Yeah I know man it's nowhere on the internet. I guess you'll have to research it at the UWP library like she said. I would really like to go there since I'm from this area. Let me know if you find anything. I know this thread is old but in case u folks are still on this board i have some info on the coffey woods. My father was born in 1914 and passed away in 1987. whenever we would go past the coffey woods outside of platteville going towords d ickeyville just on the left hand side before you get to that trailer park he would tell the story of what he saw as a kid. dad was was going to grade school at the maple glen school house which still stands on the right side of the interstate across from the coffey woods. dad said the teacher warned the students not to go to the woods as something bad had happened so being kids that was an inventation to go see what was going on. when thy got there the police were digging up part of a womans hip wrapped up in meat packing paper. dad said the man whos last name was coffey killed and cut up a woman and burried her body parts in the woods wrapped in meat packing paper. had nothing to do with coffey cans the mans last name was coffey. i assume this had to of happened in the 20's since dad was born in 1914. and that is all i know about the coffey woods.

Thanks for the story. I'm from Cuba City so I'm not very far from Platteville. I've always wanted to check the woods out but I've never been able to figure out where they're at exactly.

Was glad to hear from someone about Coffee can woods, I believe the newspaper accounts list the reason he killed her as an insurance scam.Anyone have information about paranormal activity in The Lodi area, ? I live there now and am curious.
