Yeah thanks I've already looked at these but I was just wondering if anyone else had anything more. Is this building still open and running then?

I'm not totally sure but is the actual building haunted or just the cemetery? And how far is the cemetery from the building?

There is a lot of information in the other Sanitarium Hill thread. I would recommend the sites listed above and the other thread. You can also find information in the book "Ghosts of Madison". I can tell you that the spirits there are pretty evil from what I have heard. Also there is not a cemetary in the woods (I have searched the whole woods, it is not very big). There is a cement slab out in the woods, but I am not sure what that building was for. I know it has a ramp. I don't know why they would have made a small building in the middle of the woods wheelchair accessable back then. I like to think that this is where they used to burn the bodies of those who had tuburculosis. I will try to take some pictures of the ruins in the woods next time I get out there. I do know more if you have more specific questions, Let me know. It's pretty scary at night in the woods.

Yeah tell me everything you know about the place like what's so scary about the woods and why is it haunted. And about the cemetery, I thought that people have said that they've been to it, idk? It sounds pretty interesting and I would like to check it out some time since I'm only 1.5 hours from Madison. So if you could just tell me everything you know about it.

Well... LOL... Once upon a time... The Indians that lived in the Madison area used to pass by sanitarium hill on their travel routes along the north side of Lake Mendota. It is a pretty bit hill by Madison standards. Many think that their may have been Indian burial grounds on top of the hill. I don't know all the rituals but there is something in Native American beliefs about it being a holy place because atop a hill that overlooks the lake. I hope I don't offend any Native Americans giving my horrible translation. So one of the reasons that it may be haunted has to do with Native Americans. Second; the building on top of the hill which is now a Dane county office building used to be a Sanitarium. I think many of the residents there were not crazy but had tuberculosis. If you read on the sites listed above they talk about burning the bodies after they died. Once again I don't know all the details but I am sure they probably did burn the bodies to prevent the spread of the disease. From what I have read the Sanitarium itself is not haunted but the woods behind it is. I don't know why. Some of the sites say that there is a trail that goes into the woods and leads you to a cemetery that is located in the woods. That is not true. The woods are not very big. There are several 2-3 trails that weave through the woods and lead to the back end of the woods. The woods are completely surrounded by residential areas. I have searched the entire woods and there are no markers for any graves out there (not to say they are not out there and unmarked, mrahahahaaha). I think what the websites are referring to is the cemetery that is behind the neighboring church (which is also said to be very haunted). If you take the trail through the woods, it leads to another entrance to the woods that is located off to the side. This entrance is located right next to the cemetery. You don't need to enter the woods to get to cemetery at all, it's just next door. I am intrigued by the cement slab ruins with the cement ramp that is located in the center of the woods. I want to know what its use was. If I had to guess I would say it's about 18X25 feet across (I didn't have my tape measure). If it was the crematorium, that would be creepy. As for the haunting I don't know a lot. In the book Ghosts of Madison they tell a story of some girls who went there at night. Supposedly an evil entity hit or punched one of the girls and the entity manifested itself as a grey mist right in front of them. These spirits are supposed to be nasty and the book also states that these spirits in particular are the type that has been known to follow people home. It is a bit odd up there. There is a big water tower as you enter the woods. I did go once at night and was very scared, especially since I had heard about the nature of the spirits. I have never had any experiences there aside from an uneasy feeling. -The End- I think it would be great to see Sanitarium Hill on the second season of The Haunting Experiments. As you know I am a Southern Wisconsin Haunted Location Scout and I do Lobby for said locations exposure

I know that you could film in the woods, it's a public county park. The cemetery is public of course too. If your asking about filming inside; I don't think it would be a problem if you contacted the right people. I have never heard anything about the inside of the Sanitarium being haunted, but that doesn't mean stories don't exist either?
