The Animal Planet show "Lost Tapes" is on Netflix now so I caught some episodes I missed earlier, including the "Oklahoma Octopus". The show was interesting and well made but doing a bit of looking around on the net comes up with 3 man-made lakes, not prehistoric seas that retreated. I'm not saying all the episodes are bunk but this one makes me wonder how much basic research do shows do before they jump into production? Do those who search out cryptids find shows like these a help or hinderance? Does it set back the serious research end of your work or is it par for the course? I liken them to bad PR, one of those things you see/read and go "oh great, that's all I need." I guess this could apply to paranormal researchers also.
