Hi Chad or Terry, I have seen articles about lights called Orbs, can you tell me alittle about these lights and if you ever have seen them or been amongst any of them while on your travel. The only thing I ever expierenced which was very scarry was..When was younger A tornadoe came through out aera and while watching T.V. lighting hit The antenna and blew our T.V. up and A light came out of the t.V. and floated thorugh the room and took a light out when it found a grounded wire. That was spooky..It just floated through the house just over our heads. We asked the electric workers and they said it was built up electricity from the lighting and it looked for a ground. We could not touch anything and could have been electrified big time untill the company desencitized our house..Is this the samething or is this different?I hope this never happens agian weird stuuff man. That was back when I was really young.

That's a cool story, Dee! Most likely a form of ball lightning. Orbs, on the other hand, are said to be spirits of ghosts. Perhaps. We've had countless "orbs" on everything from film cameras to digital cameras to video cameras -- and in just about every case that I can remember, the video has been shooting night shot at the time. The vast majority -- perhaps all -- have a natural explanation: dust, moisture, pet dander, bugs, or are an artifact of digital photography, namely a process called pixillation. Despite the seemingly hi-tech nature of digital photography, it's really more primitive than film photography. The sensing devices cannot properly interpret the environment and create blank spots or poorly imaged spots that don't fit with the rest of the background. You can see the poor quality of most digital pics by looking at the outline of images; they're not clean, distinct lines; they're blurred around the edges. The same with orbs: light hitting dust particles diffuses and creates many of these on the pic. Also, the photos lack depth perspective; an orb may appear to be far away, but because you cannot properly judge its distance, it could be essentially right in front of the lens when the picture is taken. Night shot video creates similar artifacts when the infrared beam hits the dust in the air. These images seem to be curving or moving quickly away from the camera, but again, because you can't judge depth, they are more likely crossing closely past the video lens, which is curved, thus giving it a corkscrewing effect. When we do investigations, we look for multiple pieces of evidence. If we're getting orbs, is there anything else happening simultaneously in the environment that may lend itself to interpreting them as "ghosts." If we have various meters or temperature probes or people experiencing anomalous phenomena at the same time as we're seeing orbs on the video or still camera, then we're more intrigued. Unless that happens though ... no. You'll find a lot of people talking about "orbs" on the Internet but I think that most of them are misinterpreting the results. Often you'll find 6 or 7 orbs -- or more -- in a photograph. If orbs represent spirits, then does that mean there are 6 or 7 spirits simultaneously crowding the picture? Even in a clean home there's lots of dust floating in the air. It goes up, it goes down, it goes sideways. An experiment. Sit quietly in the darkness, eyes open. Let your eyes adjust to the dark. After several minutes, turn on a flashlight with a powerful beam, something like a halogen bulb would be great. Point it away from you. What do you see in the light closest to the lens? Orbs are controversial. Many other people will tell you something different. I think that there are too many open questions about them that haven't been resolved. Thank you that is a great explanation and gives me the answer I was looking for.I have seen some of the stories on Weird Wisconsin. It is a great site. Very nice to talk with you sir.You know the more I get invold with writing and stories the more I hear from people about things they saw.It would be neat to write a book on only that.Strange things people have seen.A girl who has been taking the place for someone who is gone at the chili post office told me,when she was younger her and a freind where comming home and driving up a hill and as they drove a very bright light came down and just about landed on the hill stopped in mid air and then just took off and really was gonefast. She said it was faster then anything she ever saw and went a different way. It was reported that some kids saw this very thing in Alma Center just about a month ago and when I was younger me and a freind both wittnessed a very strange light with no sound. This would be some something to write about and take suveys and such.Ya know ! if there is other life.... it is I think.... doing it's own suveying. One small world amoungst 100's of others...doesn't that just make you wonder?

Thanks, Dee -- you're welcome. There's all kinds of strange stories. There are a number of investigators around the state digging up and recording new ones all the time. It's unbelievable the number of odd, even bizarre, experiences people have had. There have been several books written about them. I maintain a list on my site at: <http://www.weird-wi.com/bibliography.htm>. This includes mostly newer books only. There are several older ones that are hard to get that I haven't included but you can probably get at a local library. I know that Chad & Terry are working hard on a book, among all the other projects they have going. I'm also working on a book. All of us are always interested in hearing of stories or getting leads to stories. We're interested in saving these things from oblivion. And if you do have a lot of stories yourself, you can always write your own book. There are lots of people out there who publish their own books, but it's hard to get distribution to more than just a handful of friends or readers, unfortunately. I hope that readers of this site keep this in mind; none of us invent stories, we can only get them from people like all of you out there. The great thing is that Wisconsin is truly blessed with weirdness. Richard Hendricks rdh@execpc.com Weird Wisconsin www.weird-wi.com/

Hi,talk about weird stories, one night about 2:30 in the morning. last summer. Iwas out on our deck, could not sleep...It was a warm beautifull and bright star lit night.I was watching the stars..I noticed this one star straight above our home.... a very faint star, watched it for about 10 minuts and all of a sudden it got real big and moved about a fingers width to the right and dissapeared.I did not see it after that because I tried to see if it moved else where.Nope it was gone...True story and still gives me the creeps. What you do is focus on one area and don't move your site.It is cool what you see that moves,Satilights ect...This was not a satilight that night....I also saw something last year fall to the ground in our niegbors woods...I beleive it was a meteorite.I would like to find it but he has a no tresspassing sign..He is a very nice man though.Dexter ville and Pittsville, Wisconsin are known for alot of ufo sightings and their is a hidden landing area also somewhere by the south of their.I wrote about another sighting me and my daughter both seen. That was a ? mark also.Man.... I could write a book.I have an open mind to these subjects and all most everyone you talk to around here has witnessed sightings.God has other things in store for us and we will find this to be true some day..Rightnow.. I belieive we are being taught to get used to the idea we have visitors amoungst us.
