This is something that I am not sure if others have experienced in this particular house, but for most of my adolescence, I was in state owned foster placements, and one such place was in Waterville, Maine. Don't get me wrong, it was irritating.
I had just bought one of those little strobe light things, you know, about the size of a police scanner or an E-Z Pass, but it was like $5, just a cheapie. It was transparent pink and had a little knob that you really had to turn to get to work, and it flashed faster the more you turned it.
I was sitting up in bed one night, playing some video game or other, and all the lights were off (I hate sleeping in anything but absolute darkness) and I was just starting to win, and the strobe light began to flash very slowly, like it was on setting 1, the slowest it could go without being turned off.
Now I know for a fact I had unplugged the thing before I went to bed. In one of the strobes lights, I saw the plug was where I had left it, laying on the floor, not plugged in, yet it was still flashing.
Man, I was so freaked, this was my first encounter ever, and I shut my game off and sat up straighter. If this sounds like a story, it's because I've been writing for awhile, but this truly happened. This is just how I write.
I decided enough was enough, I wasn't going to freeze up like some sissy afraid of my own shadow.
I called out "who's there?" and the light began to flash a bit faster, three seconds between flashes. I repeated the question a bit louder and it began to flash faster.
"What do you want? Who are you?" I called out. Now I was just curious. My thought was, if the ghost was only playing with a party light, what was there to be afraid of? I was actually considering getting out of bed.
At this point, the strobe light was on maximum speed, but I still couldn't see anything. Just as soon as it hard started, the thing stopped flashing. The room was dark again.
When I woke up the next morning, I checked the knob on back of the unplugged light and it was turned to maximum, where it had been off when I had gone to bed the night before. You had to really turn that thing to get it to work.... I was curious.
I looked up the history of the house, because that seemed the logical thing to do, and found that the guy who had directed the building of this house had actually been backed over and crushed by a dump truck during construction. I figured the ghost had been him.
I sold the strobe light to a friend, who put it in his fish tank.
Has anyone else ever had a ghost who liked playing with lights?
