this is what i got from shadowlands
Stockbridge - Joe road - back in the early 1900's the state wanted to build a road over an old Indian burial ground. The grounds keeper called Indian Joe would not let them, so they ran him over and built the road over him. If you drive down the road which is up hill both ways and stop at the bottom, put your car in neutral Joe will push you up hill to the end of the road. If you put flour or any powder on the back of your car you will see the handprints after the push. - February 2004 Update: If traveling South on WI 55 its a quarter mile from a hotel on the right and it will be your first right on a road after Co Tk F. The submitter tried it and it is a real "Gravity Hill." They report no handprints on the back of their truck though. Thinking it was a fluke they turned around and tried to roll down the hill from midway up and i went happily rolling backwards up the hill into 30 mph headwind! The road isn’t all to tricky to find but coming from Lakeshore Drive and 55 the road ID signs have been removed, by either locals trying to keep people from trying the hill or by vandals. - March 2005 Update: (connecting lakeshore and 55) the road signs for Joe road are actually on the "T" of Lakeshore and Joe road.. but the ones on the "T" of Joe road and 55, are missing. I is reported the road is an optical illusion, it looks uphill but really it is not.

There are alot of indian burial grounds around Wisconsin. I wouldn't doubt if there was imprints left over there of the indian tribes being there but I don't think they would leave hand prints in the flour.

I heard of a similar story in southern Illinois. There was a school bus that was trying to cross railroad tracks, but was struck by an oncoming train. There were several children killed in the accident. So, what people do is park their car directly across the tracks where the accident occured. Then, they get out, put baby powder on the back bumper, get back in the car and put it in neutral. All of a sudden, the car is pushed safely off the tracks. When they get out and look at the back bumper, there are childrens handprints on it.

My cousin and I are actually headed to this area next week...Joe's Road is on the Brothertown reservation, though I don't think many natives live there any more...most of the original tribe that was removed from the NY area back in the 1830's to this area headed north to the Stock-Bridge-Munsee in Gresham. . We are going for genealogy reasons as we are both decedents of the Brothertowns. I have not told her about this road yet, but I know she will be intrigued and we are bringing cameras.
You know what I think I will do? I will try to hit one of the locals and ask them about the History of Joe's Road to try to get a different perspective on this? I have been to the road before and considering the location, I doubt that there was a burial ground there. It is a road that leads towards the lake. The burial grounds for the Brothertowns are still intact.
Boo!

I went on my first paranormal trip of the season yesterday. We started out at Rienzi Cemetery near Fond du Lac. It is said to be haunted. We didn't see anything, but it gets pretty creepy towards the rear complete with a pet cemetery.
Next, we drove out to Joe Road near Brothertown. I knew of all the gravity hill stories, but remained skeptical. I really didn't expect anything to happen when I put my car in neutral. Boy was I wrong. The road itself is only about a 1/2 mile long at most. It stretches from Lakeshore Drive along Lake Winnebago on it's farthest west side to Rt.55 on it's farthest east side. If you turn on Joe Rd. from Lakeshore Drive and head east, the road gives you the illusion that you are going downhill. I drove about halfway down and stopped, put my car in neutral, and low and behold we started rolling backwards up the hill. I tried this about four times, and the longer you let the car roll, the faster it gets, going uphill. It's one of those freak of nature type of things. I was thinking about what darkman said about energy fields near a body of water.
We finished up by heading out to Witch Road. We arrived there at dusk and entered on the east side. To my dismay, there was a "ROAD CLOSED", local traffic only sign. I was going to take it anyway, but got talked out of it by the others. So I decided to try the west entrance. By this time it was dark. There was also a sign there but it was knocked down. We did see something rather strange though. There was a truck that was backed up to the red gate with it's lights on. I was going to go down to check it out, but the rest of the team thought better of it. As I was turning the car around, the truck turned itself around facing the gate and shut it's lights off.

I think there might be an energy field since its by lake winnebago. there was a road closed sign the first time we went to witch road west of there and there was no actual road work anywhere. When we went to church road cemetary near portage last month hwy o was not marked anywhere near portage , only near the dells. Omw said he couldn't find it right away either and almost went back like we did, but the last time we tried we found it.

Joe's Road is just an optical illusion, here is some of the investigation information from the Anomalies section: "This is just a strange optical illusion. We checked the road with a level and found that it is actually slanted downhill even though it appears to be uphill. Topographical maps of the area indicate that it is actually a decline of about 70 feet from the east end of the road to the west end."
