I have heard the legend of the Highway 12 ghost. I didn't believe it. How Hollywood, you pick him up and he disappears!
I was on my way to work. It was about 1:30 am and I was heading northbound on 12 going toward Ho-Chunk Casino. It was foggy, cold and generally a horrible night to go for a stroll. This was only a month or so ago. I wasn't paying much attention to anything because I was on my way to work. I spot a man walking in the same direction I'm going. Sure, there are plenty of people walking on 12 at all hours. This guy though, he had a green jacket. The jacket looked dingy and kind of dusty. Not a winter jacket.
I entertained the thought of this being THE highway 12 ghost. Then I told myself I'm never lucky. It always happens to someone else. Plus, as I passed him, he had a beard. I had never heard of the ghost having a beard.
He was probably around 5'9", medium build, dark hair, neatly trimmed, but full, beard and dark hair. As soon as I saw the beard I quickly discredited my previous assumption and went on to work. Darn it!
Then I bought the book. I immediately flipped to the section about the Highway 12 ghost. Then I threw down the book. The description matched!
I'm not sensationalizing my sighting. I'm still skeptical as to this being a ghost. It's really uncanny. Someone walking at 1:30 am on 12 is sure to get stopped by a police officer. This guy wasn't drunk. He didn't seem to be in a hurry to be anywhere. I know if I was walking by myself on a dark highway I'd at least be walking briskly. I don't recall seeing him a mile up the road because I was about a mile away from my job.
I honestly don't remember any winter apparel(i.e. gloves). His eyes were dark and I kind of don't remember a lot of details about his face. He had a full face.
Well, that's about it.
