I would assume that you're going to the Villisca Axe Murder House.

Hey ATS, Yes I just got back from the house. What a cool eerie place. They are still trying to get the axe that was used for the murders.

Hey guys, I'm a newbie around here but love the site. i know of a few local stories here in Sioux City where I live. I will tell what i remember & look for some web-links to post here sometime later on. The first one that comes to mind is the story of a teenager that was shot in a parking lot on the "Morningside Loop" ( a place on Morningside Ave. where teens used to cruse in there cars) . Well the story goes that there was some altercation & the poor guy was shot in the head & died on the spot. That was back in the 80's. Anyway there is a daycare across the street from the parking lot where he died & on occasion his apparition is seen in & around the daycare. There is allso a story about the an old packing plant. Years ago the main boiler blew up & destroyed About 1/2 of the building. Many people died & the building was closed for years. Anyway years later a few businesses opened up in the remaining parts of the building. One night the custodian was turning out the light for the night. On one of the upper floors there were 3 outdoor lights that light the outside of the building. He turned them off & started back inside & they came on. This happened 2 or 3 times, so he took the bulbs out & as he walked back inside, the lights came on! One other that comes to mind is a house on Morningside Ave. where several people were murdered. Apparently strange colored lights in the attic. Thats all i think of off top of my head , but like I said I will do some searching & put some web-links up here.

In Iowa City, just north of downtown (the address is 520 E Washington St in Iowa City), is a bookstore called (appropriately) The Haunted Bookshop. The staff does indeed go along with it. Every room is named after the ghosts that supposedly haunt the store. I myself only felt a harsh chill when thumbing through a book in Stephen's room (even though it was room temperature throughout the house, save for the basement). In the basement, it felt like I was being watched while (again) thumbing through a book. Other than that......well, you visit the store, and you decide for yourselves. Website is www.thehauntedbookshop.com/

I live in Mason City, I'm not sure if this house is haunted, but it was supposedly a house of an ex-serial killer who murdered several children (don't quote me on this i heard it from a friend.) Anyways it's down a bike path a little ways and after the guy was arrested it fell apart. Even if it isn't haunted it looks pretty spooky even during the day. If you want more information just send me a message and I'll be happy to give you more about it.

Its not a major haunting, but it is one. there are 2 small cemetery by my house that I did a small investigation on. Here is the case file: Kent cemetery&church We went to kent cemetery first. We took some pics, then we pulled out the witching sticks (dowsing rods). We got readings over all of the graves. we then went over to the church. It is very run down, and is not used anymore. We looked in one if the windows, and went to the other side. The back door was open, so we went in. We found it to be in bad condition. No pics we took there showed any signs of paranormal activity, though there have been claims by others that they have caught things. Winslow cemetery: Here we took pictures, and also got out the witching sticks. We found severel unmarked graves, and on 3 graves one of the sticks spun round and round. All were old exept for one. One of the old ones was an 18 year old with the last name warren, the other old one, and infant, and the last one. My dad knew him and his temper wasn't to good. He also spun.
It is belived that spinning like that may be caused by the extra energy that they had or may still have, and that it is posible that this may be caused by there tempers. I know these are miled hauntings, but they are somthing. Am looking for the pics on my computer right now. And hitman97, I have been to the book store, and there is somthing to it. I felt that same way in the basement. I hope the floods didn't damage the books down there.

Is this heaven....
I am an amatuer paranormal investigator from Wisconsin. I originally came from Illinois, but have lived in Wisconsin for the last 20 years.
My parents settled in to Fort Dodge after they served their tours of duty in the military. That is where my mother was born and raised. A few years later, they moved to my fathers hometown in Illinois. I was born and raised in Illinois.
To put a long story short...
My mom was a huge Cubs fan. She passed away in 1995 with no World Series for her beloved Cubs. I am as big a Cubs fan as she was.
Me, and my girlfriend took a trip to NE Iowa a few years ago. We went to the Field of Dreams movie site. Selfishly, I thought that going back to my mothers roots would bring back at least a message from her. I got no response .
It is much more difficult to "find ghosts" when you are looking for them, than it is when it is when you let nature take it's course.

Please investigate weird deaths over the years in Decorah IA- or keep tabs of student deaths. I went to Luther for two years and was amazed at the 'accident proneness' of this smallish town in NE Iowa. Also- the town is said to exist in a spiritual vortex of sorts- by some anecdotal and I must say ammaturish spiritualists. However go there and if you're sensative- you can feel a heightened energy there. -Spring 1993: Luther College co-ed collapses and dies on campus's library lawn during I believe 'Kool Aid' a local college celebration -Late Summer (around August 20th) 1995: HS Basketball coach's 6 year old son accidently hangs himself on 'play' basketball hoop -Fall 1995: Student passes away in is dorm of heart condition -Fall 1996: Luther College student kills girl friend with ax then shoots himself (over the Fall break off campus) -Fall 1997: Student falls to death while hiking The campus's dorms are also haunted, Brandt which houses the freshmen and the oldest dorm which most seniors live in.

i'm pretty new at this paranormal investigation stuff. I'm taking it slow since i'm not sure what i can run in to. I've been looking for this bridge in Shellsburg iow. It's nickname is satan hollow's bridge. It's haunted under neath the bridge its self. If anyone knows which bridge it is, reply with a post. I can't find any locations from my research.

I work with people who live in/around Shellsburg (and I myself live about 15 miles from the town). I've asked one gal I work with (her boyfriend has lived there almost all his life), and she asked him about it. He didn't know of a "Satan Hollows Bridge" in or near Shellsburg, and hadn't heard of it being there, but he thought it might be up near Vinton (the county seat of Benton County). Anyhow, they were going to ask around to a few of his friends and see what they could find out. Will let you know if and when I find something out!

my mistake. wrong town it's shellrock iowa. I did try to find it's location and got close. But it's listed in a different town. It's telling me it's in adelanto Iowa. Shellrock is a two hour drive away from where i live. With so many bridges in shell rock. I'm not even sure it's even possible to be in that town.
