they have determined that it is a dog. the dog had been in the water for months and finally washed onto shore.

Well, in all honesty, scientists are watched closely by the government, and I have seen some pictures that were at another angle, and its definitely not a beak, the back legs are too short, for a raccoon, you would see bone protruding from the flesh, and I didn't see any, but my guess is as good as any other. Now there is someone saying its a raccoon, and Cookie is saying it was determined to be a dog, which is it?

Dog, raccoon, I don't know, but I doubt it's some mutant monster. Chances are it's just a long-dead and bloated animal that washed up on shore.
Decomposition brings interesting physical results to the carcas. You'd be surprised what dead animals can look like over time.

I agree with Depsycho as well on this one. As well meaning along with what I had said. Because well, simply put, I thought about it and mulled it over, and came to an even better conclusion that includes Depsycho's answer.
Things die, and things decompose. Take a tomato and an apple...a small red apple. Given enough time (and I've tried this just so that I can say this) eventually decomposition will make it to where you cannot recognize one from the other. Unless of course you were to do a genetic (yes plants do have genetics they are alive after all) and look at the make up of the genes. But otherwise, your small apple and your tomato can be easily confused as each other. So taken what I have learned from that, and re-looking at this picture, I have made a new conclusion, but I refuse to withdraw my answer from earlier about scientists and the government. But my conclusion is this:
What ever this poor creature may be, decomp and water bloating has set in, and the poor thing is largely misunderstood.

Alright, lets settle with this. Could it be a raccoon. YES, there are a number of things that could have happened to it. It could have had som sort of disease or something. It could be from decaying and water. Could it be some other creature YES, let's settle on this the experts are kinda dim witted when it comes to new creatures because they A don't want to spread panic and B always want to come up with a resonable solution to everything.

I agree, Nikki, Government often does try to cover things up. Not to go off topic, but the Roswell incident of 1947 can be an example of this. Whether it was real or not, the Government DID step in and cover up any suspicions to the best of their abilities. I mean there were newspapers and tabloids alike on the incident for weeks when it happened.
Whatever it was, point being, the government tries to take control of any situation that could possibly cause pandemic. This sounds like one of those cases.
Anyway, I'm still not convinced this is some unknown beast. There's a lot of things it CAN be, but I don't think it's something to fuss about until we get SOLID genetic, scientifically researched EVIDENCE that this is/was an undiscovered class of animal.
It is interesting nonetheless... in a gross, decomposing animal kind of way.

Your completely right. Most people are narrow minded about this. I'm not ready to say it's a new creature or a Raccoon just yet. and Depsycho is correct it could be any animal that had a genetic disease, be in the water to long, or decayed. It's interesting to think about but until they have evidance that it isn't a raccoon or a dog than let it rest. It is a very interesting topic though, and I agree again. It's nasty and I would never want to be up close and personal with it.

Yeah, I can imagine the smell it must give off is horrible. :-\
Eeew. But still, I feel sorry for the thing; if it washed up, then it likely drowned to death, since there's no visible wounds on the carcas that could cause its death (unless perhaps there are some on the other side, but I doubt it).

Agreed.
It probably did drown. I would think the wounds would be on the side facing towards the sky if it was attacked because the attacking animal would not have likely backed off once it killed it.

I don't know...it's awfully big to be a raccoon. Or is it just a close-up?
