Is the path that leads to the shack and the well, on public property?
I wanted to visit Ringling Road, but I just assumed that the path was on private land, and you couldn't get at without tresspassing.
I think that once the ground dries (hopefully by September), I'm going to be doing some hiking.
Sweet.

The story goes: The Ringling Brothers Circus used to be based in the Wisconsin Dells area. There was an old farm/estate (I guess you can still find markers that say ringling out there) There was an old well and an old shack. One of the circus workers apparently killed a child or some children and threw them down the well (similar to the movie "The Ring" which is oddly similar to Ringling) Then the worker supposedly hung himself in a shack that is located out in the woods. If you go to the well in the middle of the night you can see a ghost (the mother of the children who were killed) sitting on the edge of the well. And if you can find the shack, it is supposed to be haunted by the murderer who hung himself there.

Has anyone ever actually seen the shack? The only person that states that they have seen the shack on this thread is the person who started it and she has gone awol. I am confident that the well is back there but I am wondering if the shack actually is. I have my doubts about it.

THEY DO EXIST!!!
So I went to the Dells tonight to go see Chad speak. I wanted someone to come with me but everyone that is interested in this stuff was out of town or busy. I decided it would be a prime opportunity for me to take my first trip to Ringling Road. I left around 530pm. My iphone was stolen like a month ago, I couldn't find my other digital camera in storage and my digital camcorder's batteries were dead. UGG!!! I stopped at a gas station and considered buying a disposable but everything is so overpriced in the Dells. The cheapest one was $10 and I didn't buy it because I wasn't sure if I would be able to find the well and shack (and at that point I didn't even know if they were really out there). I left the gas station in Lake Delton and had no problem finding Ringling Road. Right when I turned onto Ringling I immediately saw a dead deer on the side of the road. Not to gross anyone out, I only bring it up because it was a stange, almost like an omen. Also how it looked was really crazy, I am not going to go into detail about it, but trust me. It took me a minute to get over the deer, so I didn't pay attention to much of the road driving to the spot where you need to park. Everything was just like in the directions. As I started walking down to the spot where the path back to the woods starts a car drove past. As I got up to the house right by where the road back there starts I noticed that to get road you would have to go right up the house's driveway. I did not want to do that. I decided I would keep walking forward through a small line of pine trees and into the field. As I got to the corner I looked down Ringling and the car that passed me was sitting there in the middle of the road half way up the hill. Thinking quickly, I decided to round the corner and act like I was just walking down the road (as opposed to trespassing right in front of them). As I neared the car that was stopped watching me, they slowly started to drive again, up over the hill. I waited till they were out of sight, then I darted back, ran off the road, through the pines, and into the field. I was hoping that no one was watching me from the house. I followed the edge of the field for a bit and met up with the road that leads back to the woods. I was a little nervious, partly about getting caught and partly because I was alone, and a little anxious about what I might find. I followed the road back and eventually I saw the stone pillars with the initials on them, I knew I was in the right place. My excitement grew because it was a sign that at least some of what I read here was true and when I saw the pillars I knew it wouldn't be much further. By the pillars there is a old torn down gate, some downed barbed wire and a tree that has been knocked down to block the path. All really easy to crawl over, but I would be really careful if it were at night (not that I think I would ever have the balls to go there in the dark). Once you pass the pillars and blockage you are immediately entering the woods, but you can still tell where the trail is. Now I was getting a little more scared, It was dumb to go there alone, but I was dying to see what was out there. Another tree is downed and you have to leave the path and go around it to the left. As you round the tree you can see it. It's not just a well. It's a whole huge structure, just sitting there in the middle of the woods. It's looks like a mix between a miniture schoolhouse and a little pavilion. It's about 15-20 feet tall and made of stone. I could also see the shack in the distance about 50 yards past the well structure. At this point I was getting really scared, it was erie out there alone and it didn't feel right. My mission was, get a couple photos with my cellphone and leave. I did not go closer than 10 feet to the well structure, I didn't even look down the well. The vibes I was getting from the shack in the backround kept me away, I wanted nothing to do with getting any closer to the shack, I could barely see the shack but I was so scary. The door was open on the shack and inside I could see what looked like an orange lightbulb that was on (it was still light out) that really freaked me out. I took a few photos and backed out. YIKES!!! I will never go back alone again. It was Blair Witch meets Texas Chainsaw Massacre meets The Ring. I am super pissed I only have pittly little photos on my cellphone that I cannot put on here to show you. I have to go back soon...

Well omw, sounds like you had a busy little day. Congrats on finding everything. Just out of curiousity, about how far would you say the well, and the shack are from the main road? Shadow State: beethoven23.tripod.com/ShadowState.html

yes we did see the dead dear, but it wasn't a deer carcass it was the skeleton, and yes id did look freaky. Do you walk on the corner of ringling and hilltop road or is it a little bit south of there , closer to county a?? you know we could of made the trip to the dells library but we would of had to go out to eat for supper and that is expensive.

I had a couple dreams about Ringling last night. I kept trying to go back there. I really want to go back pretty bad. I want to look down the well and go in the shack to see if there is really the stool in there. I have a hard time believing that if there was a stool someone wouldn't have taken it. Then again, I wouldn't want it. A couple of girls from my work that I may be starting a group with want to go there some night from 12a-3a for a sort of investigation. That is the time that the ghost of the mother of the children killed is supposed to be sitting by the edge of the well. The even wanted to bring a tent and camp out. I was all "You guys are freakin crazy", as a joke I said we don't need to bring a tent, we could just sleep in the shack", that got their attention. The truth is I'm scared to stay there at night, you just don't know what your going to run into. Even if we didn't run into a ghost, we could still end up in some sort of crazy version of the movie Deliverance. Regardless I pretty much have to go because if I don't they will call me a chicken.

I wouldn't want to go at night myself.Too many other people would be there , probably people patrying and vandilizing property. I would rather go during the daytime when you have the place to yourself.

I know what you guys are saying, I don't want to run into anyone out there either. I'm defineatly going to go back during the day before we go at night. They are pretty set on it, also the legend (which I know probably won't come true) is that the mother of the children is there every night between 12a-3a.
I really want to try to find of if the story about the children being put in the well is true. I don't really know how to go about this. I thnk I will start at the circus museaum in Baraboo. They have a library there with more information and history on circuses than anywhere else. I want to start by just researching the Ringling propery on Ringling and then hopefully that will lead me in the right direction to see if there is any informaion out there about the story.
