If you don't mind subtitled movies, I would reccomend: Ju-On (*one of my all-time favorites)R-Point The Tale Of Two Sisters Phone Infection The Wishing Stairs Pesonally, I have gotten more into the asian horror genre. They seem more creative, and genuinely scary. Shadow State: beethoven23.tripod.com/ShadowState.html

I agree, most of the good "ghost" genre horror movies are coming out of the Pacific rim & Japan these days...Hollywood has become a wasteland when it comes to creativity & writing.
While I don't agree with all the movies I've seen listed as being "scary", I have to strongly disagree with "The Blair Witch Project" as being at all frightening...I watched this one with my son, and we laughed our arses off...it has more value as a comedy. A bunch of people lost in the woods, too stupid to simply follow the stream they've crossed dozens of times, to get out...and if you love watching film of fallen leaves & dirt, you will love the cinematography...but I suppose they had to leave the camera focused on the ground in order to avoid filming the telephone wires in the background & jet planes passing overhead...would have ruined the mood, you know...
"The Ring", & "The Grudge"...both excellent choices.

Hello, new here...hope ya don't mind me joining in but I know of quite a few that might give ya a good fright depending on what you like in horror.
Calvaire (The Ordeal) ~ French 2004 subtitles gory, torture, weird Ils (Them) ~ French 2004 subtitles a lot like The Strangers but way better. The Abandoned ~ Russian 2006 very weird and sinister, pay close attention it will confuse Hellraiser ~ UK 1987 demons, gory and of course being from Clive Barker one of the best movies ever. The Midnight Meat Train ~ UK 2008 Clive Barker gory, dark very good. Silent Hill ~ 2006 not as good as the games but pretty decent Strangeland ~ US 1998 Dee Snider awsome movie, but very disturbing Frostbite/Frostbitten ~ 2006 Swedish subtitles kinda korny but pretty good Vampires Night Watch ~ 2004 Russian subtitles vampires very good Day Watch ~ 2006 Russian subtitles vampires follow up to nighthingych very good as well Outpost ~ 2008 UK Nazi WWII ghosts terrorize a band of mercenaries its a pretty cool concept High Tension/Haute Tension ~ French 2003 very twisted and keeps you at the edge of your seat. Very disturbing.
Any Fulci, Argento, or Romero all very good films from them.
If I think of anymore I will post them.... *caution* these are all mostly rated R

IF you had read my post carefully you coulded saw that I put Blair Witch Project 2, I agree that 1st wasn't so good but the 2nd part kinda freaked me out, its simply unpredictable of what will happen, I was stuned of those things and how they appeared...

and the best thing about The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is its suppose to be true Alot of people thought it was based on true events, But actually some of the story was taken from a serial killer named Ed Gein. Who made Lamp shades , Jewelery, ETC. out of the victims bones and also shirts from their skin. Their was never a family of cannabals. That was made up, Too enhance the story. Here is a link i found of the Writter/Director explanation. www.snopes.com/movies/films/chainsaw.asp

Actually stevenro, That was made up too. Just another way to pull you into the movie. Blairwitch did the same thing at the end of their movie too. Their is another movie comeing out called the Poughkeepsie tapes. About a killer who films all his victims and how he killed them. Not taken from real events. You can go to Youtube and view the trailer if you want. Just put in the Poughkeepsie tapes Trailer. Here's a link from wiki. About the movie. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Poughkeepsie_Tapes
