Hey all,
Our group, BHPI investigated the brothels that are located on the second floor above the Lucky Nugget Gambling Hall in Deadwood, SD. The investigation were actually five investigation over a period of almost one year.
One of the first investigations we conducted, I was in one end of the brothels getting EMF baselines, while the rest of the group were in the other end on a tour. During my excursion, I actually experienced a phantom smell of perfume. What was interesting about this was the fact that my EMF meter actually spiked for just a second as I got this smell. When I walked out into the hallway my EMF meter wet to a 1.3 reading, but I was unable to find the cause. While I was trying to find a reason for this reading, I heard footsteps walking down the hallway away from me. I checked and found that the rest of the team was still on the other end of the brothels, and when I went to investigate if there was someone else there, I found no one.
Later in the night, I was standing in one dead end hallway and saw a shadow rise at the end of the hallway and then rush me. I actually took a step back thinking whatever it was was going to knock me down, but it just went right by me and was gone in an instant. I don't know what it was and must say I was a little unnerved.
The problem; we never captured any of these experiences with our equipment. They make for a very cool 'ghost' story, but not much good for evidence.
Interestingly enough, after my experience with the phantom smell of perfume, I was telling about my experience when one of the employees went white. He indicated that he had told no one of his experience in the very same room of smelling perfume. He did not want anyone thinking he was crazy. So, this does help to verify others have experienced the same thing, but does not constitute evidence.
The same goes for the footsteps as this was one of the claims of activity, but without a recording or any evidence, it just goes in as a personal experience. Even though we did later capture footsteps on our digital recorders.
As far as the shadow person goes; there was an employee who claims to have been touched in this hallway. But, once again a really cool personal experience, but not evidence.
I realize that personal experiences can be exciting and really cool and can help to add to the mystic of a location it is difficult to use them as evidence. Although, I must add that personal experiences coupled with evidence of EVPs and EMF readings can and should be considered somewhat.
All in all, I must say the brothels proved to be an exciting investigation that did not disappoint. In fact myself and a couple other investigators are planning on camping out all night in the brothels to see what happens then. I will keep you all updated on what happens.
