Me and some very close friends have been interested in the paranormal for quite sometime. We did our first investigation a few weeks ago at an out door location where a haunted house once stood. It was awesome, I'll post some links to our results later. Here is our issue. It's getting cold outside and going to be snowing here very soon. Does anybody know of any indoor locations in cedar rapids, IA? Secondly, how do you go about getting into these places? Is it as easy as calling up the owner and asking or are there certain permissions we will have to get from somewhere else? Any help would be greatly appreciated. OH BTW Love the site

You should get permission from the authorities and the land owner requesting to check out the area of interest. Often, they will not care, unless you have a bad police record that is... I don't live in IA, but I know some people on this site do. Check the memberlist for people from your area to seek specific help. Look on the internet or strangeusa.com and look up your state and city and find points of interest. If you can't find really interesting things locally, try branching out to surrounding cities to see what's up. Happy Hunting!

Can't help you with any locations in Iowa, but as Jason points out you can check out the internet. I would also highly suggest that permission is the top priority, without it, you are a trespasser and subject to arrest. Our group has also had business cards made up with our contact info, (Not expensive) and have walked around town handing our cards at businesses and have also dropped off cards at a local coffee shop. This has proved to be a good move as we have gotten some good investigations.

Thanks for the ideas. We have checked some places online and have a few leads on some others. Things seem to be coming together for us more and more. I posted on our forums the business card idea and one member said he has already started on them. LOL. Thanks again.

if you have a solid group and enough equipment to do full investigations build yourself a good website and get your group name out there.. there are alot of ways to somewhat advertise and make you group know and avilable to the local and surrounding public...

We are on the wrong side of the state, so I can't give you any specific locations, but I would recommend that you contact the county historical society - they may run locations that will allow you to investigate (most usually charge a small fee for the night.) More and more local historical museums are allowing investigations as an alternate source of income.
