Somebody on here recently asked me - in private - if I had any personal experiences with "the paranormal" and if I "believe" or "don't believe"......
Just a little over 5 years ago, my partner and I bought a house that is "supposedly haunted" - I think I've said on here in the past it's kind of a "famous haunted house in Wisconsin" - but that's kind of stretching the truth.....
Our real estate agent told us it was the local "famous haunted house" when she was a teenager - but that's because she had grown up nearby, and this house had sat empty for years when she was a kid.....she talked about when she was a teenager, she and her friends would dare each other to come out to the spooky old place that I ended up buying.
The property itself is "known" because of it's historical significance....the State Historical Society has sent me information about having the place "listed" among Wisconsin's Historical Places, but neither my partner or I have any interest in that.
But the "history" of my property doesn't have anything to do with a "local haunting" or anything like that!!! So I can't say that it's a "Famous Haunted House" - !!!!
Anyway...the main part of the house was built in the 1840's so it's close to 170 years old.
I never like to say much about my house on the internet like this because I don't want people driving by the place all the time or "exploring" around my property. I'm afraid I'd be like a grumpy old man yelling: "HEY YOU KIDS - GET OFF MY PROPERTY OR I'M CALLING THE COPS!!!"
But a lot of "strange things" have happened at my place.....my brother-in-law swears that "something" grabbed him one night when he was sleeping over...he never "sleeps" at the place anymore, if he stays over he stays awake all night with the tv on. Different people that have been there have reported a whole lot of different sounds - from "music" to "hammering" to hearing actual voices.
We've heard all of these things, too - and we've both seen "shadow people" but for us, this is never like other people describe it to be.....it's just seeing "shadows" or "movement" out of the corner of your eyes, and that sort of thing - to be completely honest, there were only a few times when this "flash of motion" was visable for long enough that either of us could say it looked anything like an apparition or even anything that I could look directly at (if you understand what I mean) - just mostly I'd catch something out of the coner of my eyes and when I'd look, there would be nothing there.
-and this only occured the first few years that we were there...it has been years now since either of us has seen anything like that. it's almost like the "ghosts" got used to us and don't really pay attention to us any more.
NOW - here's the important point that I really want to make.....
NONE OF THIS HAS BEEN THE LEAST BIT FRIGHTENING!!!! (well, my brother-in-law doesn't agree - but I mean, neither my partner or I have ever been "seriously afraid" of anything that's ever happened at our house)
We both have pretty full lives....we have full time careers, we've got friends and family - people in our lives, we look at the old house as a "renovation project" and the most "overwhelming feeling" we have about the place is an aggravation (or frustration) over taking so long to actually get any significant "home repair" projects completed.
The whole "haunting" thing is just kind of a "cool" side-note about the place....at least, that's how we look at it.

I want to just say a little bit more....my brother-in-law, his name is Eddie and he's the one who is absolutely sure that something grabbed him in the middle of the night. He says he wasn't dreaming - he was just falling asleep, he was kind of "half awake" and he was on the couch in the living room - there were 4 of us in the house at the time....everybody was going to sleep, it was maybe 2 or 3 in the morning....
So - suddenly Eddie just starts SCREAMING at the top of his lungs (I really don't want to describe his personality here, but he isn't the "type" of guy who would ever "scream" at all - he's not above yelling, but he isn't easily frightened or anything) - the house was dark and quiet and suddenly my brother-in-law is just screaming unbelievably loudly...I rushed downstairs - everybody rushed into the living room, and he was seriously "terrified" and he explained that a hand had hold of his arm - and it didn't let go of him until the rest of us ran into the room -he said this is how he knew he wasn't dreaming, it had ahold of him for several seconds and he said he tried "pushing it away" and there was nothing there. Then he just felt it "let go" as the other three of us ran into the room.
He really is "afraid" of our house now - and I always harass him about it. One time he asked me what was the most "frightening" thing that had ever happened there and I said:
"That time you were crying like a little girl waking us all up because you had a bad dream!!!!

I feel bad for your brother-in-law though if it was a ghost they were only trying to get his attention. I can also see why you are a believing non-believer. I'm also grateful you were willing to tell even if you didn't want to. Your house sounds cool.

yeah....I really can't say for sure what my brother-in-law actually experienced - but he wasn't "faking" anything! He was genuinely scared (more than that - terrified even) and he really is not the type of person who would have started screaming in the middle of the night for attention or anything. He kind of thinks of himself as a "tough guy" I don't really know a good way to describe him - and I'm not going to rip down my brother-in-law on the internet - but the best way to put it is that he just isn't the "type" to have done something like that. And he really was very "upset, agitated, freaked out" - etc.
It could have been something as simple as a "muscle spasm" - couldn't it?
He was falling asleep on the couch - and it isn't the greatest couch in the world....he probably had a hard time getting comfortable - I don't know, I'll never know exactly what he "felt" - but I have to confess that there is something really funny about this particular guy screaming like that! If it was something "supernatural" or "paranormal" and it has intelligence/consciousness/whatever, I think it also has a sense of humor because Eddie was the absolute perfect person to "pick on" in this way.

LOL Actually muscle spasm fits but I wonder if he had a bruise or felt really cold pressure on his arm. That would signify that he'd been touched but it very well could have been one of those your-body-thinks-your-dying kinda muscle spasms. tThey can be as long as a few minutes and can happen just before he fell asleep because his heart rate may have dropped really low.

Let me tell you about another "experience"....
The year before this last New Years Eve (so it's close to two years ago now) - we just had a couple friends come over....not really a "New Years Eve Party" or anything.
At one point - one of my friends asks: "Is that the ghostly music we're hearing now?" - and we all had to be quiet, turned off the tv and all that - and we could all hear this really faint music. (this had occured before that, too, but the people who happened to be over that night had never witnessed anything odd at our place before then).....
We could all hear this really soft music...one of my friends said it sounded like a waltz, but I could never hear it clearly enough for long enough to figure out what the particular music was - I was kind of hoping it was "Auld Lang Syne" ("should old acquaintance be forgot...." - it was News Years Eve, after all).....at times we could also hear what sounded like voices talking and laughing - but it was all very faint. It sounded like it was coming from outside and I assumed that a neighbor was probably having a party - but we all went outside and there was absolutely no sound from any of the nearby houses. (We're in kind of a rural area so there aren't a lot of houses close by, but we're not out in the "middle of the wilderness" either) - we have neighbors that are close enough that sound could (and does) travel throughout the area.
But it was totally quiet that night - there was no "party sounds" at all from any of the neighboring houses. We went back in and could still hear these faint sounds....music and some voices. We walked around the house trying to figure out where it was the loudest....
Whenever we've heard these sorts of sounds at our place - they do seem like they are coming from a distance. It sort of sounds like somebody has a tv or radio on quietly in another room - but the place isn't all that big (right around 1500 square feet of floor space) - so we had tried before that night to figure out where "phantom sounds" were coming from, and we'd never had any luck before then, either.
I always do assume it has to be coming from outside (if there is no source of the sound inside the house) - and there have been a lot of times when we did put a lot of effort into trying to figure out where an "unexplained sound" is coming from!
(when we first bought the place, it had mice and we had to have an exterminator come in.....mice in your walls make some pretty freaky and distubing sounds, by the way!!!)
But that New Years Eve - we couldn't find any "explanation" for the music and voices - and they eventually just faded away. I kind of wonder if this might have been an example of a "residual haunting" - so, maybe what we were hearing was the sound of a New Years Eve party that actually took place long ago.
-again, I really don't know what I "truely believe" about any of this....but it's interesting stuff to talk about.

It actually sounds like a residual haunt to me.

Thanks - I like the place a lot! (which is probably why I bought it) - but it still needs an awful lot of work, and we never seem to have enough time to even do a small fraction of the "renovations" that we'd like to finish one day....that's just life, I guess.
But this last weekend, we had some friends over and we were having seances and we even got a new glow-in-the-dark Ouija Board! (I know people on here sometimes get a tad bit "uptight" about Ouija boards - but they really are just a toy and nothing more) - anyway, every time the house made any sort of "creaking noise" (which is very common in old houses) - everybody would get scared....it was really fun, so I have to acknowledge it's a perfect place to indulge in "supernatural entertainment" with friends and family.

I'm always careful!
But I really haven't had any "exciting experiences" lately to report about.

The Ouija Board is a hoot for entertainment.

Ouija Boards really are a lot of fun! If you have 4 people sitting around it - with each person trying to put their fingertips very lightly on that planchette thingy, it's going to move! -and I don't mean that anybody is intentionally trying to move it either - but you're all just sort of "pushing against" each other just trying to keep your fingers on it, so it will work - and it's fun trying to figure out if any real words are being spelled.
Ouija Boards really are great entertainment!

HI SWIGS!!!!
I'm sorry that I'm just answering now (almost 4 months after you asked me) - I'm hoping you still check back here and notice that I've responded!!!
I recently had something really weird happen, and I'm not sure what to make of it.
First of all - I'm always working on something or other around the house....there is no shortage of "projects" to fill my time, but this Summer has been so hot and humid that I haven't felt like taking on anything "big or complex" so I guess I'd have to say that the major renovations have been on hold for a while.
I do want your opinion about this, though (and the opinions of anybody else who would feel like commenting, of course!) I was on vacation for two weeks recently (mid July) - we just stayed around home for the most part....at some point during this time, I "misplaced" my glasses. (eyeglasses - I usually just wear them for reading anyway, so it didn't bother me too much) - but I looked everywhere for them. In the room that is supposed to be the dining room (we never eat in there, that's why I say it's "supposed to be the dining room") we have an antique "buffet" cabinet thingy - and we have a tray on top of it where we put car keys, wallets, etc when we get home from work every night - that's where I always put my glasses. So like I said, we were off of work and I can't say when I first noticed that I ciouldn't find my glasses - I just noticed they were gone (not on the tray on the buffet) I'm going to estimate around July 15th...so this has all "played out" very recently.
I've been able to tell for quite a while that I needed new glasses anyway, so I just made an appointment with my eye doctor and ordered new glasses......
I picked up my new glasses last night, after work (the mid July vacation is over, I'm back at work - and my old eyeglasses still had never turned up)....
So this morning, I go into the dining room and get my new glasses off of the tray on the buffet and my old glasses were sitting right there on the tray (alongside my new glasses, wallet, car keys, etc) - now - THOSE GLASSES WERE NOT THERE LAST NIGHT OR ANY POINT SINCE I "LOST" THEM A FEW WEEKS AGO!!!!
I had looked all over the house - obviously checked that spot first, since that's where I normally keep them.
So basically - it almost seems like "something" took my old glasses and then "returned them to me" after I got the new glasses....
Any thoughts? (and I'll happily accept that I might be senile)
