Can anyone tell me if there have been any sightings of Big Foot in Northeastern WI? My husband and I hunt in the Forest County and Florence County areas, and I am a little creeped out to go, in case of running into one.

I dont remember where exactly i was because i was about 10-11 years old. But i was in a car with my grandma going to madison. We were on a highway surounded by woods i was reading something told me to look up and out the back window and i saw a big brown hairy man which looks just like photos and drawings i have seen of bigfoot. It ran acrossed the road from one side to the other and disapeared into the woods. When it ran it looked like a gorilla running but even more like a man so i take it as i saw bigfoot i dont know what els it would have been i clearly see it in my head as though it just happened so im not mistaken. Just wanted to sare thanks Monica

Having hailed from Cumberland, Wisconsin. I can pretty much tell you that nothing weird or paranormal is going on up there. I spent almost fifteen years living in Cumberland. My house was in the country where I lived with my family and a very territorial German Shepard and never had anything out of the ordinary. Neither has my friends or their families. Furthermore, I actually went to school with Peter Cupp, one of the alledged eyewitnesses, and I know him to be less than somewhat reliable. Hate to break it to you guys, but the Cumberland Bigfoot is a myth.

I agree that a person’s credibility should factor into their claims. We also need to consider the long history of sightings in the area along with other witnesses who claim to have seen the Bigfoot creature. Do I believe that the family saw a Bigfoot creature, I do not know. What I do know is that after interviewing both Peter and his mother, they seem to really believe that they saw a strange creature.
Bigfoot sightings are not uncommon by Native Peoples. Those in Himalayan regions of India, Nepal, and Tibet it is called the Abominable Snowman (Wilson, 2000). The Sherpa guides of Nepal call the creature Metoh-kangi(Time- Life, 1997). In Northern California, the Huppa tribe calls it Oh-man-ah. In the Cascades, it is known as Seeahtiks( Wilson, 2000). Brazilians sporadically spot the Mapinguary, and Argentineans occasionally see the Ucumar (George, 1995).
The belief in Bigfoot in the United States dates back prior to the arrival of the early settlers during the 1700’s. The Native American people tell tales depicting “hairy giants” that have the ability to change their shape or form at will (Blackman, 1998). The Algonkian Indians of the northern forests referred to the creature as the Witiko or Wendigo. These Witikos were believed to be cannibalistic giants with supernatural powers (Clark &Pear, 1997). Many Native American tribes even speculate that Bigfoot creatures are banished medicine men that now live underground (O’Brien, 1999). The Coast Salish of southern British Columbia termed the creature “Sasquatch” in the Halkomelem language. According to Salish legend, a human may go crazy, pass out, or lose their soul by the magic of a Sasquatch (George, 1995).

I agree I should not base the belief of the monster on anyones reliability. I can say that I do work on the Maple Plain Reservation at least four times a week. I have worked both days and nights. I have never seen anything out of the ordinary. I do recall one local police officer who did say that they may have seen something, but I believe this was to keep an ongoing joke going.

I have been researching bigfoot for many years and can say first hand the many reports are unreliable, but many others are reliable. Also, there have been a few hair samples that could only be identified as unknown primate. There is a finger print expert from texas that has studied 1000's of footprint casts and known primate prints and stated although it is possable some are hoaxed most he has studied have dermal ridges (similar to finger prints) that are similar to known primates that would take someone being very knowledgeable in finger prints. To think that the average person has this kind of knowledge is a joke! I'm skeptical of ghosts but does that mean their not real? No it just means like many others I'm not knowledgeable nor have i seen one that i know of. So, there for I'm not going to comment on something i have no knowledge of.
Thanks, Shane
