I would have to personally say that the picture is that of a grey or red fox. But, what is also noticeable about the picture is that the stomach area is distended. There is a possiblity this could be a female and is pregnant or lactating. Some animals will lose their hair or it will thin out when they become pregnant.
I breed dogs and have noticed these changes with my own animals.

Terry,
I do agree that it is probably not a fox, maybe it is hybred of some kind. Thank you for all of the good info. also. It will be of great use to me.

Hi Terry and Chad,I was wondering where this animal was seen? It reminds me of some sort of wild dog from Africa...Maybe a cross bred dog.I am sorry I have been working and I am trying my luck on a design for a Motor trend car design contest and also a Memorial design for around my home area. But for sure I always check whats going on with my favorite internet site.If you get anymore reports, It will be interesting to read.I read articles of strange animal sitings in other places also like in arizona and such.Thankyou for the picture.

Hi Dee,
The mystery creature was photographed in Asheboro, North Carolina. Others have reported seeing similar animals in Wilmington, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio, New York, and Oregon.
Chad and I are trying to get the photographer, Bill Kurdian, on our show as a guest.
