Here is a strange story from the early 1900's taken from my book. I will try to post a new story from the book weekly. Enjoy!
IS A HUMAN MONSTER CHILD IS HALF DOG AND HALF MAN -Marinette, Wis., Feb. 2-A human monstrosity, half dog and half man, was born here. The child is living and the mother seems as fond of it as though normal, and insists on keeping it alive, regardless of medical advise that it be allowed to die. The body is covered with hair and has a long, projecting nose and low forehead. It is said that the mother was scared by a dog jumping on her about a month ago. -Eau Claire Leader February 3, 1905

Isn't it interesting that people actually believed that the things that occured (such as being startled by a dog during pregnancy) could actually change the baby!? But I supposed nobody really knew of genetic abnormalities at the time. Didn't the circus have "dog faced" boys around this time? I am curious as to what happened to this child...

Hey Rachel,
Good insight! I too am curious as to what happened to this child, as I never found another story on it. Having researched this time period rather thoroughly, I found numerous cases and stories where people actually believed that if an animal scared them while pregnant, their child would resemble that animal when born.
