Chad, I was talking with a friend and then I also remembered something of this interesting information.. I was wondering if you heard anything of this. A friend of mine spoke about a talk show she watched and for some reason Teenagers where able to hear some type of sound over the T.V., but older people where not able to hear that sound. The broad casters of that show where also talking about this particular incident. They where said to be trying to figure out what was happening.Nothing since that day has happened. Then I remembered earlier there was a certain cartoon for kids, many years ago that was said to have some type of control over kids and was taken off the air. I just find this interesting. Does anyone else know or have heard of this incident?

I remember a few years ago that a Japanese cartoon got taken off the air because some of the "strobe" and color effects were causing seizures in eppileptic children. Can't remember the cartoon for sure, but that's the colsest thing I remember hearing about.

I will have to ask my Friend. Her daughter heard the sound and both the mom and dad did not and believe me they wouldn't miss anything she heard!, I talked to her about the event and she said it was a sort of hi pitched sound. Probably doing something like that of a dog whisle..only set for younger people's hearing audibilities. I will bet they where doing some type of experiment again. Figures!

younger people pick up higher pitch sounds than adults. in the uk i believe they have sounds at this frequency outside of some shops to prevent loitering.

yea, kids can hear higher frequencies than adults. We did a test at school where some person played different frequencies and we were supposed to stand up when we heard something and all the students were standing up but the teachers didnt hear a thing

Hey einstein2, one possible explanation is the simple one: With age, comes hearing loss. Seriously, I used to be able to hear that particular high-pitched sound as a child and teenager--I know exactly what sound you are talking about--but as I have aged, I hear it less and less. I even found an ad in a magazine that offered a device to repel "youngsters", it was for older adults, and it claimed to emit a high pitched sound that only younger ears could hear, a sound that would annoy and repel a younger crowd. No kidding.

Evidently, not only are shopkeepers using this tone as a "teenager repellent", but the teenagers have turned the tables, and are using this frequency as a ringtone that their teachers can't hear, while in class...here is a news link: www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=5434687

my younger kid brothers are using this as a ringtone-they both are in highschool and get a huge kick out of the frequencies that they can hear but adults cannot hear...they have mulitple ringtones with multiple frequency types as well. 25 years+ 30 years+ 40 years+ and so on...it is actually a very cool concept to a point!

I don't really know if it's all to do with age, maybe just how your ears or in genral. because I had a teacher who was like 50 who could hear it but than other teachers that where like 30 couldn't hear the same tone. I think it has mutliple things not just age.

Yeah that is where the iPhone and iPod Touch came up with the idea of the dog whistle and sound grenade apps. People set them off in class and then the students shriek in pain and yell "STOP IT!!!!!" but the teachers are like "Stop what?" lol
