I can't confirm the exact name of the cave but Wed. April 28 2004 five highshcool students were exploring the bluffs and caves of the Mississippi in Saint Paul. Three died from Carbon monoxide poisoning. There was also another incident in another cave not fifty yards away were two girls died of the same thing in 1992. I found this info. in an article from CNN.com.

the caves are EXTREAMELY DANGEROUS!!!! there have been many deaths and caveins, it's like a 5000.00 dollar fine for beeing in there also. just some food for thought.

I am not from that area but I am interested in knowing how people there are dying from carbon monoxide poisoning. If they can get in why isn't the air getting in? This just sounds strange to me. Did the kids get involved in a cave-in or other tragedy?

i also heard that the odd smells have been explained as ammonia, resulting from all the bat nuts in the caves.....i am thinking of contacting the parks dept to find out what channels i have to go through to explore the caves and whatnot this weekend....so i don't get the fine and all will keep all posted about the trip, and if anyone wants to go with email me or message me, k?

most people that go to the caves are there to party and decide to have a fire as the temperature is pretty chilly, probably around 60 to 65 degrees. it alters the farther you go in. as far as i know the problem is not carbon monoxiide poisoning as it is having a heat source slowly drying out the sandstone ceilings. when you take the moisture from the ceiling it becomes brittle and will cave in. don't know how familiar you are with the area, but most of the caves on the river down by plato ave. are sealed. the ones in swede hollow are dust and have been for a long time. i experienced the caves back in 92 and they had carvings in the wall from demonic altars to initials. there was a big slide you could ride down called the stairway to heaven so i'm sure it had been there since at leat the 70's when zeppelin was huge. i wouldn't suggest going into any of these caves as they are unstable and there are no hauntings. it's spooky just because of the environment you are in. hope this helps you. by the way im going to dartmouth cemetery and if you guys are interestded i would love to have you.
