Hello anyone and everyone...I was just wondering if anyone has ever been to sanitarium hill in Madison and seen anything out of the ordinary. The building used to be an old tuberculosis hospitol and there's a forest in the back with some creepy trails that lead to a graveyard somewhere. There's also two large smoke stacks that are rumored to have been used to burn dead bodies. I went there the other night but forgot to bring a flashlight, and there's no way in hell im goin in a dark place where i can barely make out where the trail is without a flashlight.

If the sanatorium is closed, you should try to get permission. I think It dates back to the 1880's. Sorry I don't know any info on this place. I wish I did. I will do a google search on the sanatorium

Northport Office of the Dane County Department of Human Services - 1202 Northport Dr Madison WI This is a massive five story building composed of brick that overlooks a gently sloping hill which extends to Northport Dr. The Northport Office of the Dane County Department of Human Services building used to be Lake View Tuberculosis Sanatorium which served to cure tuberculosis (consumption) beginning in 1930 and ending in 1960. From 1966 to present, this building is currently used for licensing, clinical, and welfare services. Why is Sanitarium Hill Haunted? *The main building was an old tuberculosis sanitarium. *There is a forest in the back of this building that leads to a cemetery. *There are two large smoke stacks that the dead were rumored to be burned in. *The nurse's barracks was connected by a tunnel that was underground and leads to the main building. *Most of the sightings happen in the woods by the cemetery.

This is from my post in Madison Locations:
So we went last night to check it out. We went into Lakeview Woods. The Woods are part of the Dane County Park System so anyone can go in them. The woods are really erie but we didn't experience or see anything. I would like to also point out that the trails in the woods don't take you to a cemetary back in the woods. The woods have more than one entrance. The cemetary belongs to a church that is located right next to the Sanitarium. So you have the ability to enter the woods behind the sanitarium and follow the trails until you exit near the cemetary. If your just looking for the cemetary you don't actually need to go into the woods, we searched and there is not a cemetary back there. There are ruins/foundation for some old building near the center though.
There are 2 trails to enter the woods, one is directly behind the sanitarium right by the water tower, the other is over by the cemetery behind the church.

We went to Sanitarium Hill last night. Right when we got there we parked right next to the main building and right on top of the ridge at the edge of the woods, there were about 5 deer just sitting there eating. We were only about 35 yards from them and they were not scared at all. I tried to take a video with my phone but they were hard to see with the cruddy resolution. My friend ran up the ridge and spooked them so they would run away and it seemed as though they did. Then we went up by the watertower and they were still standing there, they were not scared of us at all. We walked up towards the trail where you enter the woods. We went behind the brick buildings and when we got around them 10 seconds later, all the deer were gone. We didn't see them running away or see them again when we were in the woods. It was rather odd that they didn't run away while we were right next to them and they waited to disappear while we were out of sight.
***When I said last night, it was referring to the night before

I went to Sanitarium Hill last night for the first time in the dark. I am surprised I hadn't gone there before considering it's only about 4 miles from my house (probably the closest legend tripping destination to me aside from Orton Park). I don't know what's kept me away; honestly, I think I've been scared. The stories in "The ghosts of Madison" tell of very malicious spirits that haunt the woods there. They have physically harmed people and they have followed people home, that freaks me out. Anyways we went... Nothing happened... It was pretty freaky back there in the woods. I wanted to go the the old foundation that is out in the center, but we saw some little sign marked some weeds as Poison Ivy. We didn't want to go off the path after that. We just walked through the woods and exited over by the cemetery. Nothing happened in the cemetery either, wasn't as scary as I thought it would be. We did however find a small shack at the very back of the cemetery that I had never noticed before. It's totally hidden by a tree. It must be for the groundskeepers/gravediggers.
