There is a house located at 415 N Carroll St. A friend of mine said that he had been inside one night and that the house has been vacant since at least the 70's. He said that it was haunted, but he wouldn't say why. Perhaps he was just drunk, who knows. Regardless, it's a very large house located downtown. I've never seen any cars there, or noticed the lights on. When I first heard about it. I wrang the doorbell and no one answered. I guess that there is all sorts of furniture inside with white sheets over it. I would love to get inside to explore but I doubt that's ever going to happen. has anyone ever heard anything about this old spooky house?

I LOVE THAT HOUSE!!! (and I'm actually just a few blocks away from it right now)...I never realized that there was some mystery surrounding that house - but I can clear up a few details for you, OMW....
That house is owned by one of the "major" landlords in Madison...I really don't think it's fair to say the name on here, though. It appears to have been cut into apartments. I'm guessing that the first floor remains intact and it is considered to be "Apt 1" - and the upstairs has been divided into two other units....I'm saying that because people have been listed as living at "415 N Carroll St Apt 2" and "415 N Carroll St Apt 3" for quite a few years. (in fact, it sure seems that somebody currently lives at "415 N Carroll St Apt 2" right now....but it doesn't seem like anybody has ever lived in APT 1, so I wonder if the owner keeps the 1st floor vacent for a reason?
OMW - you said you knocked at the front door....try going around the back (so go up the driveway) it looks like your enter the 2nd floor apartments from the back of the house. And even on google maps, you can see a car parked in the back of the house!

Would it be safe to assume that it is owned by the rental company located right next door?

That would be a sound assumption, yes. You know - you can even search through the archives of the madison newspapers online...you can do that here: host.madison.com/-and I didn't find anything that ever occured at that address. Is there any other way to find out if anything out of the ordinary has ever happened there? (I'm guessing that actually asking the landlord wouldn't be helpful)

OH HEY - I JUST FOUND ANOTHER PIECE OF INFORMATION!!!
The house was purchased in 1987 by a "charitable foundation" from the estate of Dr Reginald Jackson....those prominenet local landlords with the office next door - they purchased it from the foundation a year later.
(QUICK NOTE: Reginald Jackson was pretty "prominent" in Madison and you can easily find a lot of info on him...I didn't know that was his house. It's pretty cool if he haunts the place and doesn't allow anybody to live on the first floor)
