The next Oshkosh Ghostwalk will be Saturday, May 21.
We will be exploring the southern half of Riverside
Cemetery (Algoma Blvd, Oshkosh) in the afternoon,
going to New Moon Cafe (downtown Oshkosh) at 6:30 for coffee and snacks (pay for your own) and to talk about New Moon ghost stories.
After the New Moon, the more daring of us will be
going back to the cemetery for an afterdark walk.
(The cemetery has no specific hours or gates and one
can be there after dark..if one DARES!). Riverside
Cemetery is a very interesting and LARGE cemetery. It
has a lot of fascinating statuary, gravestones, MANY
family vaults and family plots and is situated along
the serene Fox River.
We will be meeting at 4:00 at the main cemetery
entrance (the main reception building--it looks like
an old granite stone chapel with a drive-thru drop off
area in front of it). Parking is your responsibility--there is street parking on side streets but not on Algoma. (The cemetery parking lot is very small so we shouldn't take it up).
You are welcome to bring smaller equipment such as
digital cameras, small video cameras and voice
recorders. Our pace is fairly slow and we will be
walking the southern (oldest) end of the cemetery.
We will be observing cemetery etiquette, which means
that if there are funerals in process or people
visiting graves, we must not disturb them by taking
photos or talking loudly. We will expect that if you
publish any of your photos anywhere, you will obscure
names on gravestones. This will be a fairly quiet
walk but I'll try to have some good cemetery history
with me so we can understand more about the people who are buried there.
To get to the cemetery from Hwy 41, exit at Algoma
Blvd and head SOUTH (into Oshkosh). The cemetery will
be about 2 miles down on the RIGHT. The reception
building is at the far end of the cemetery.
I will try to get more detailed information to you
before 5/21.
If you decide definitely to attend, please RSVP to me
at msm00@yahoo.com before 5/21 so I can have an idea of how many people are coming (and so we will wait for you before we start!).
