I want to start some conversation about different locations in Madison. In the Wisconsin Ghost Files it lists "Lake Monona Light". I am curious about this because there are lights all the way surrounding lake monona on the shore, also there are airplanes that fly over the lake all the time to land at Dane Co Regional Airport. I am wondering what would make someone think that any lights they see by Lake Monona would be something paranormal. Any information that anyone has about the light, I would appreciate it. Then the WI files list "Haunted Railroad Tracks". Does anyone (Chad ) know where these tracks are at? Next, I live about 4 blocks from Orton Park in Madison, I am wondering if anyone has information about the hauntings that have happened there. Does anyone know about the underground tunnel at the haunted Bar Next Door, Or the cemetary in the woods at Sanitarium Hill? Other locations I am curious about near Madison: Dryson Rd Majestic Theater Has anyone ever heard of any Hauntings at: Edgewater Hotel - 666 Wisconsin Ave in Madison Governers Island - I love that place

Northport Office of the Dane County Department of Human Services - 1202 Northport Dr Madison WI This is a massive five story building composed of brick that overlooks a gently sloping hill which extends to Northport Dr. The Northport Office of the Dane County Department of Human Services building used to be Lake View Tuberculosis Sanatorium which served to cure tuberculosis (consumption) beginning in 1930 and ending in 1960. From 1966 to present, this building is currently used for licensing, clinical, and welfare services. Why is Sanitarium Hill Haunted? *The main building was an old tuberculosis sanitarium. *There is a forest in the back of this building that leads to a cemetery. *There are two large smoke stacks that the dead were rumored to be burned in. *The nurse's barracks was connected by a tunnel that was underground and leads to the main building. *Most of the sightings happen in the woods by the cemetery.

I went ahead and added most of the info from Shadowlands above.
So we went last night to check it out. We went into Lakeview Woods. The Woods are part of the Dane County Park System so anyone can go in them. The woods are really erie but we didn't experience or see anything. I would like to also point out that the trails in the woods don't take you to a cemetary back in the woods. The woods have more than one entrance. The cemetary belongs to a church that is located right next to the Sanitarium. So you have the ability to enter the woods behind the sanitarium and follow the trails until you exit near the cemetary. If your just looking for the cemetary you don't actually need to go into the woods, we searched and there is not a cemetary back there. There are ruins/foundation for some old building near the center though.

I lived in Illinois during my childhood. There were many stories about the mental institution in Manteno. It seems like these sites are magnets for the paranormal. Alot of troubled lives have gone through these places.

Went to the Bar Next Door in Madison. One weird thing happened, in the upstairs we were looking around and for one breath inhale I smelled really strong scent of smoke, which is a something that others have reported. It was really odd, all the fireplaces have been replaced with gas and Madison has a smoking ban. Here is a photo of the staircase that leads to the upstairs. People report feeling an evil scary presence and the feeling of being followed as they go down the stairs.

I know it's been about 4 months since this thread was started, but as for Orton Park, it was Madison's first cemetery (before Forest Hill). They didn't keep records of who was buried there, and some of the wooden markers were so badly damaged or missing, so when bodies were removed from the cemetery, and buried at Forest Lawn, it's almost certain that some of the bodies got left behind.
The trees in the park are said to be the catalyst to the activity (when it was a cemetery, no trees grew on the land) . Spirits hide behind them, & watch you as you pass them by. Some people believe that the trees that grow at Orton Park, are themselves, the spirits of those still buried in the park.

I got the haunted info from Sherry Strub's book Ghosts Of Madison, Wisconsin[/u]. Pretty interesting.
I haven't heard of haunted train tracks (ghost train wise) in Madison. The tracks near Waubesa St. are supposed to be haunted by a little girl/boy that roams the tracks.
If you find out about any haunted train tracks in the area, please let me know. I'm curious.

Raven, Just wanted to tell you that I know someone who works at the Bar Next Door (pictures above) if you need to get into the basement to take pictures for your website. I went down there in October to check out where the entrance to the tunnel used to start. It's pretty much just a wall now, but totally see where it was.

Thanks for the offer omw. That sounds pretty cool. I'd love to do it sometime.
I haven't started working on The Bar next Door, yet. I just know what I have read about the bar, in books, and on-line. Have you had any experiences there, yourself?
