Hi friends, Just wondering if anyone has visited the Caryville area and/or has heard any stories about this area? I've been to the area...but not to "ghost hunt". My husband works with a guy that lives about a mile or so from the Caryville Church...so he's been prying for info...(even though my hubby isn't a believer). Anyways..the co-worker usually just replies with "oh gosh..there's so many stories". He did talk about one specific story though. This is "hear-say" but he did say that if you go to the Caryville Cemetary at night...light a cigarette...leave it there...and return the following night....you will see a ghost smoking the cigarette. Now...this one sounds pretty far fetched..not to mention....the risk of burning the cemetary and surrounding area down..yikes!!! Anyways...I found that one rather unusual. Other than that....the only legit. story I've heard is about the car (headlights) driving at one of our friends. And he swears to this day...that it really happened...(see my below post for more info). Anywho...I'm just really curious about the place and am wondering if anyone has any experiences to share?? Ok...I better run... Olivia

My buddy John and I attended the event in Eau Claire recently and we enjoyed it very much. Last Sunday John and I decided to take a day trip from the Twin Cities and drive out to the Eau Claire-Caryville area and explore some of the "haunted" sites. Of course it was a nice day and broad daylight. We used Chad and Terry's book - the Wisconsin Road Guide to Haunted Locations, and also a "Wisconsin Atlas and Gazetteer." We were easily able to find the sites. We felt nothing unusual as we drove by the Caryville Church and School, and drove out to the Meridean boat landing. (No Hell hounds for us) We passed over the "haunted bridge" mentioned on page 43 and we checked our mileage to and from Highway H - but it came out 1.8 miles both ways. So - no "time warp" for us! However when we went to the "Caryville cemetery" we did find something strange. We walked around the cemetery and felt nothing unusual nor heard any strange sounds. But John noticed something on the ground and called my attention to it. It was a small (about six inches long) toy bear - made out of some kind of stuffed fabric (wasn't plastic or metal). It was a pale tan color and not well detailed. The body and arms were more like fingers than anything else, and the head was not well detailed, but it looked like it was supposed to be a toy bear. The problem was that it did not look new, but also did not look weather-beaten enough to have been laying out there very long. What was it doing there? John and I decided to leave it there. As John said "I don't want no "haints" coming looking for their toy bear". The bear just laying there on the ground was a little spooky because it seemed so out of place, (although we felt no "vibes" of any kind). Anybody else go out there - tell me if the little bear is still there. Its near the front of the cementery on the ground and is easy to spot - assuming it is stil there. And I can't even remember if I took a picture of it!

MikeyA, I am glad you were able to find all of the places you wanted to visit. That was the main reason Terry and I wrote the book. The stuffed teddy bear that you mention has been in the Caryville Cemetery for quite some time. I recall making a note of it six months ago and it may have been there much longer. However, that is not to say that it has been in the cemetery the whole time, as it is possible people take it then bring it back. Has anyone else seen it? -Chad Lewis
