Well, he DID kill his first victim in a room there.
I've not heard any stories of it being haunted, though. I lived in the now-rundown gray house that shares the back parking lot with the hotel for a few years. But that whole area has quite a lot of haunted places, namely the old hotel on 11th and Wisconsin (now Marquette's Tower Hall)...I was an RA there for a year during undergrad and saw all sorts of spooky stuff. Seems that that's where Capone would stay during his travels to visit Milwaukee's gangland connections back in the day.
Also, Johnston Hall (on Wisconsin Avenue, just SE of 12th Street) is VERY haunted. It's actually the oldest building on the campus there. A Jesuit tossed himself from an upper window back in '63 or so and his ghost is said to still roam the halls. While working as a late-night DJ for the school radio station back in the mid and late 90s, I can attest to hearing weird things in that empty building.

Thanks for all the Milwaukee stories. Increasingly, it seems the Wisconsin Avenue corridor is a pretty strange place. Lots of reputed haunted spots. Let's see, in addition to the various Marquette U. locations, and the Ambassador, the Eagles Club / The Rave, we also have the Brumder Mansion, St. James Church, The Grand Avenue Mall (according to someone I know, plagued with ghosts), Hotel Wisconsin (just off Wisconsin Ave), and of course The Pfister Hotel, further along toward the lake. Chad -- are you listening? You might take advantage of this for your Milwaukee talk, on March 5. ;-} Wisconsin Avenue apparently is one weird place. Wisconsin. Weird. I guess. Yes Rick, I am listening! Remember it was you and I that visited many of these places for the article for Wisconsin Today.
Once again Rick is right and there does seem to be some strange events happening all in that vicinity. Please let us know of any other places you hear of.

You did an article on these places? I'd love to read it. And if you have any questions about any of this stuff or this area, just shoot me an email at
the_long_goodbye (yahoo)
I'm in the Chicago area now, but still visit up there and could answer any questions you might have.
