When I wan a teen a few friends and I went to a wooded area of Manitowoc to check out a burial ground that was haunted. We were there about 23:00 We heard screams from in the woods and what appeared to be people riding horses. It only lasted a min. or so, but I am woundering if anyone has been there and what they have experenced there.

*waves* at a fellow Manitowoc county resident!
I have lived in this county all my life, and now I will wonder where this area is?
Never heard of it, but am forever curious. Will have to ask a fellow haunted fan as well... maybe she knows...
My latest thing to watch in The Evergreen Hotel, not to mention St. Mary's Cemetary, the one from the 1800's in Rapids area... I am just thrilled and enchanted by it all. Still, the way a few things have happened, I am drawn back over and over again... just to observe and wonder...

Where is this cemetery? I drive from here (Waukesha) to Green Bay all the time to pick up my ex from college.

The Burial Grounds are in Rapids by a horse pasture that is fenced in. You have to walk around it and go back 300 yards. Tomarow when I go to Manitowoc to work I will run through rapids. I live in Two Rivers

So now I wonder if this is the same area I go to, is it the cemetary (old one) from St. Mary's church in Manitowoc?
It woudl be called St. Mary's The Ressurection. Most of the wooden crosses are redone, and are from the 1800's. When you mention that kind of distance from the street, and by a horse riding area, I am guessing this is it?
We have friends who live across the street. We don't know them well enough to go there to their house and visit, the lady works with my husband. Still... I talked to her husband one of the last times I was there, and he told me some things that made me wonder. Just about the type of crowd that used to be there, and why the police department monitors things closer.
Still, whatever this place is (the Ressurection cemetary), it is grand... I love to just stand there and observe the silence of it all...
carpe diem

I'm from Manitowoc, and am familiar with this area, the grounds. Even the neighborhood and such.
I'd be interested. Keep me posted.
EDIT: Rapids is Manitowoc Rapids, on the very west side of the city, not far from I-43. The three cemeteries in that area are in the residential area, off of the main road (outskirts of the city).

Weekends usually work out here, and some weekends we are with plans.
I take my kids along, they love going as well (and they are not little, and afraid of ghosts and old cemeteries where Freddy Krueger or unknown people are buried)...

Hello again, it's Carol from Milwaukee. I am one in need of a ride to Manitowoc if that ever happens...have no car. Did some Internet research today...I believe the Indian burial grounds contains the grave of old Chief Mexico who was the leader of several Indian tribes back in the early 1800s. Area is suppose to be on old Indian hill in Manitowoc Rapids. Again, if anyone is driving there from Milwaukee, how about a bunch of us going...I can bring my voice activated tape recorder, camera (not digital) and EMF meter. Does anyone else have equipment? Also, how about exploring Motel Hell in Maribel as well? Just a suggestion. I hope Lady of the Lake reveals where the burial grounds are...do you need permission from the owner if it's on private land? Have any of you explored Fischer Creek Park just north of Sheboygan on County LS? While the land was being developed for a state park, an ancient Indian village from the 1200s was discovered. Hope to hear from someone soon, even by email. arcol2008@att.net. Thanks, Carol

And found some remains of an old building and some great camping areas back their. But not much else, woodnt mind going back and walking a little deeper in the woods. Carol, I have equipment. Heck, I need new batteries... it's been a long winter for much of it. Permission for some of the places around here is needed, and hours are enforced for cemeteries. As many times as I have been to "the Indian burial grounds", I have never seen any type of marker for any Indian Chief... nothing. Permission is not needed, but the property is watched by neighbors and police officers often, as for what vandals did in the past...
Hotel Hell in Maribel is not tourable... without permission. You would stand by a cedar fence and gaze at the masterpiece that burned down... from the ditch. The building is beautiful!
Hotel Hell is a different place than Motel Hell. Both are in Manitowoc County.
From the Maribel Caves, there is a back trail, where you can see the backside of the hotel as well, but you are not able to go right up to the building, if that is what you are asking...
The building and grounds are watched by people who live near by, and the property owner. Trespassing signs are everywhere... and it's not worth it, getting arrested.
Private message me for more info if you wish. I will stop with this message here, as for lurkers and trespassers and problem causers to the property... I will try to check in on this site more often... now that I have a carefree summer ahead of me (not working two jobs and mega hours).
