AWESOME pics! I like the photo slide show and the music added! And due to my listening to the same old and seldom anything new... I have no clue to who the musical group was on there... (go ahead and laugh, but I still listen to Alice Cooper and Pink Floyd and Elton John and Jackson Browne). Thanks for sharing the pics!

I'll be curious to know how your road trip went...
I do the same, Brian. Sometimes I am plenty quiet on this board and I just lurk or private message... Can't wait to read about what you discover!

I would be curious to know more about this place's location too...
this sounds incredible!
I had taken some pics last year at a place not far from here and when the pics were developed not all of them were there, on Kodak paper. It was at a one hour place and I told them to print everything regardless... and it was strange... some pics but not all pics from that day. And the missing ones were all from the same area we were at. *sigh*
So I am beyond anxious!! Can you tell us more about a location, or directions to get there? Manitowoc County area here.

New here, too. I just joined today.
Still, I have lived by many of the places in my area... and have always been more than intruiged by them...
My usual area to gaze at and read about is Maribel Caves Motel Hell, as it is called... as well as JFK Prep, I grew up right down the road, 5 miles away...
Just wanted to "say" hi.

I know ppl who know that family too well. And you can lurk (thanks, Amy!!) and even do a search on here with out being a member.
Bluff -- I am guessing you are young, but some of this trespassing is nothing to kid about or do... property owners prosecute to the fullest... I tried to get that across to ComeauAJ. And police officers usually DON't laugh it off.
Believe me, I was a person who would walk a mile or three out of the way to get around something and know I was legally not trespassing... years ago. And I did that, knowing better -- being from a family of ppl who worked with safety and law enforcement. But in this day and age it's not worth it. In small communities like this, and with the family having another business very close by, someone is always in contact with them or updating them. And yay for neighbors who care. And cops who arrest young kids who think they are welcomed to go to the premisis. *laughs*

I, too, am very interested in this place... Last September I was there with my best friend's mother and my children. We walked thru the caves and past the Spring, and then thru a field/area and saw the bottling plant. There were the no tresspassing signs in visibility, farther over, but not in the area where we were. So we walked on over... It's an old posting on here, but I had taken pictures of the rubbage and scenery, with my children in front of the back of the building, etc. When I got the film developed only some of the pics were there... it was strange. The film was not sent out, Wal*Mart One Hour developing and all... nothing was omitted. Last week a friend and I went to Green Bay. She drove and was not familiar with the place, so I had her detour from I-43. We got out of the car and stood and stared.... nice fence, I guess... for a person who had never seen this beautiful place before, she was questioning about where would have the parking lot been? Which part of the building would have the restaurant been? I can see how the drive way would have been going, in front of the building, but other than than... where did people park their cars? And for how we got up to the building area, there was no yellow tape right there... so was I legally trespassing? I was told no, but a few County policemen. And there was no sign that states Enter At Your Own Risk, either. For me usually being a rule bender or rule breaker... when we stopped last week -- we just stood and stared. Did not go any further or anything (and in my case, amazing). I don't know if it seems that the fence means Keep Out, unlike the yellow and black tape that was shredded and cut through, but I did stay away. ...~.~.~.~.~.~.~... The Manitowoc County Historical Society has a lot of information you are able to view, sitting at a table there, and not able to check it out from their research library. The pics are awesome! Many people standing in front of the spa, or in front of a cave wall. Or in front of the building, guessing from about 1920's/30's due to the clothing that is worn on the pics. So I wonder, will Lyman ever give any permission to go closer to the building, just to look? Not to walk around in the rubbage, but just to be closer to the building, perhaps snap a pic or two? (Lyman is a member of this board -- no posts, has any one noticed that??) Edit: On this same subject, 10/8/04 and early 11/04 I have some info on the visit and the photos that were missing, if anyone cared to read the ramble.

About two weeks ago, I spent a few hours at the Manitowoc County Historical Society. Looked at newspaper clippings on the hotel, when it was in full operation. Pictures of many, many people in front of the spa. In front of the hotel. Just grand pictures...
I had seen a lot of information from some society, I forget the name, on their work done in the caves, in the last 10 years. Impressive. Pictures and all, of that as well.
If you are from Manitowoc, make an appointment to go see the wonderful (and ancient) information they have on a lot of different areas in the county. I was impressed, and the volunteers there that day were helpful and friendly. Even more friendly and helpful than our local Wal-Mart employees *gulp*.

That is what I would like to know... why is it automatically haunted?
Still... for what happened to my camera film and the missing pics... I am still baffled more than what words can say. I was *all there* I seldom drink (a few drinks a year??? I am not a kid) I don't smoke strange stuff. I am not tripped out on drugs.
Still the lady I was with knew I took the pics. She has seen the pics, the negatives. And my children were along, they remember me taking pics of the tree growing thru what used to be the hotel. The bottling plant, etc. And there is nothing other than a distant shot of my children in front of the building... *sigh*
But why is this place automatically haunted? Same thing with other places... sure, a strange run down and neglected place that had a fire, but I want to know more!
*hits head* and goes back to being in deep thought... [glow=red,2,300]believe me... I can be a good Doubting Thomas [/glow] on many things... and this is one of them. Maybe that is why I am drawn here. Show me more proof.

Hi! I'm a newbie here, just joined today, but I have lived in Manitowoc County all my life and as a child had been familiar with this place as well as the campground across the highway.
The end of August, my children and I, as well as my "other mother", a best friend's mother and I had went to Maribel Caves Park. We had later walked along the trails to the stream, the spring, and then more... and then uphill a bit, no idea where it would lead to.
Suddenly we were by an area, we could see a big open field. We kept on walking and ended up near a smaller stone building. WE DID NOT TRESSPASS! Or even go thru any areas that were marked off for not entering. Still, we walked right up to the hotel. My heart was beating a million beats a minute, I was so excited! Still... I could see all the terrible damage and ruins. And I had taken a few pictures of my children near this site. We did not walk "in the hotel" and make ourselves at home. We just stood near, as it did look unsafe to be there.
No one chased us away. And I did not hear any voices, or children's laughter. And saw no small girl. But it was broad daylight.
As a young teen, I had once left the campground and rode there. Ditched the bike and went closer. I think my imagination got the best of me. But I was not there long.
Other than that.... This was the closest I ever got to this property, other times I stayed on the highway. I cannot imagine how grand the building was, in it's prime. And I have yet to see any pictures of it when it was not damaged.
Being a Manitowoc County local, I find this and a few other places very intruiging. I should just be so lucky that a place like this is near me...

I am glad to see this board active again!
I grew up in Manitowoc County/Valders and moved to Manitowoc about 19 years ago. I have walked the cemeteries in day light most of the time. A few times in the dark, and staying to the outskirts (as I was not sure what type of hours one could be there). I swear due to the type of work I did in the past, I got too familiar with most cemeteries that had a church next to it due to sometimes having time to kill... waiting for the time I was supposed to be at a church or school.
Until recently I did not know about the hidden staircase at the back of Evergreen. And until the last year or so I had not ran into anything too out of the ordinary at Calvary... and then I did... and I have searched my books and read and searched some more. Sat at the library and wondered... and came up with no answers.
So I continue to go to these places and I walk and wonder... and then run into more suspicious things. Like grave stones of people that died before they were born. Or what are probably mis-spelled last names.
I guess cemeteries amaze me. And it has done that for most of my life...

My grandmother used to live at St. Mary's Nursing Home. She has been deceased for over 10 years now, but ... my best friend is an ADON there, and she had said something about the children rolling a ball around on the floor. And no children no longer live there.
I really don't know... I live about 12 blocks away from there, for many years I was there, for the type of work I did. As a subcontractor. Everything always seemed normal!?!
Today I found a long and forgotten about cemetary in this city -- are you from Manitowoc??? I was there for a while, just in awe by the old wooden crosses and grave stones. I had a real hard time finding it, so I asked a police man and he pointed me in the right direction. I wish I had taken my camera along, it was peaceful, still mysterios air, I think I sensed...
Familiar with [glow=red,2,300]Mishicot??[/glow] There is a scientist guy's house, I think he died a while ago, they say he still lurks there...? If you want info on that place, let me know...
As for Evergreen Inn, I am determined that ghost Kathy is still there... I was working up the street the day she plunged from the window. Sad and freaky, and too close to home... but I vaguely knew her. So when I drive past the hotel, I look up to the 6th and 5th floor and wave...
Then again, I tend to try to be a nice person, or a friendly person.

When all of this was posted, I was a site lurker, yet I never saw it.
I did NOT see the A & E program, I was at my miserable job that I refer to as prison.
Still, as a child, I had a friend who lived so very close to where Ed had. Her parents were married when he/Ed was still there, yet a handful of years after the crime surfaced, she was born (I am 39, she is younger than me by a few years).
When I met the family, I was 10. 1975. And I had not EVER heard his name or about his crime, still I learned fast, in a matter of 2 years or so... and got obsessed with wanting to know more. Call it Wisconsin State History!
Still... I was so close to being able to visit him, as a guest of the former neighbor, who had visiting privilages (bi-weekly), and I swore it was at Mendota. That would have been in 1983, and he died in 1984. By that time, I had read the book by Judge Gollmar, and wanted to meet this person, yet when I drove from Manitowoc County to Madison, I was sick (as in shaking and vomitting) and I chickened out. Big mistake.
Years later, I pretty much lost contact with the family I had stayed with, for a few summer's worth of 4-H exchanges.... yet due to a web search I know they are there.
I only wish I had seen this string of posts back then.... maybe I see things more often now, as for taking the time to join and not lurk? Anyways, I lost this message board site, just a well job done by the administrators... Thanks, guys!

Manitowoc, Wisconsin here. I live close to JFK Prep. Close to Maribel Caves Hotel Hell. Close to St. Mary's Home. And close to some very old, ancient cemetaries in this area that I have recently discovered and trying to make more sense out of...
Always been into this kind of thing, and I lurked on this site for a long time... so appears I am a newer member, but have been around for a while.
39 years old. Detective's sister. Retired police officer's daughter. Friend of others interested in Paranormal, local. Tax payer and dish washer. Property owner (with a grave yard, seasonal, in back yard). Stained glass artist. Avid reader of murder books and state history (like Chad and Terry's new book, that type)...
That's where I am from. And more about me.

Wow!
Einstein, when did you live in Plainfield? I will try to PM you when I get on here next... wondering if you knew the people I knew, that I stayed with, when I was a kid.
Right now, I am not making much sense, as for being so tired I am seeing double...
